If I were in the market for one? Not so long... It only takes the right buyer to fetch top dollar. More often than not (unfotunately for me), that's me.

Very good point. A good glass car right now can command over $40K if you are patient, and $35K in about ten minutes. Some are asking upt o $50K for them, but I'm not sure if they are getting it. They will soon.

I have been saying this for years, and everyone poo-pooed me! 308s will be $100K cars in not as many years as you think. 5 maybe, 10 at the most. You will be able to swap a decent 308 for a decent 355 in 5 years.

Ferrari prices are all over the map when it comes to comparing prices today with the original price. Keeping in mind that convertibles are worth more than coupes and 2 seaters more than 2+2, there's still little correlation.

The 246 was an entry level car that is now worth more than any entry level Ferrari since. Mondials cost more than a 308 new yet are lower priced now. The GT4 was an entry level car that has only recently bounced off the bottom (replaced arguably by the Mondial 8). The "improved" 308i is less desireable than a carb car or a QV. The 365 (Daytona cousin) is cheaper than a 246 but stickered at 3x the price, while the "cheaper" Daytonas have really taken off the last 5 years.

A 246 is worth more (or the same depending) as a Boxer. A nice 328 may fetch more than a Tesstarossa.

My point is cars, and Ferraris in particular are an emotional thing; unlike antique furniture or Tiffany glass where the values seem much more in line with what they cost new compared to the value today. Will a 308 hit $100k in a few years? I would never have thought a Boxer could be had for under $100k 10 years ago; we're still waiting for them to pass the Daytonas and 246's!

Thats really a scarey thought. I believe your right, I have said the same thing, I just dont like the thought. But I have a feeling it wont take 5 years. What do you do when the aggregate value of your cars starts to exceed the value of your home?

Get on your knees and thank God for letting you buy one when when it was only $30k.

    Then update your balance sheet.

    Then smile REALLY big.

    Three things:
    1. Nothing is worth anything...unless someone is willing to pay that much.
    2. Value is perceived. If I sold a rock at an art show, and asked $1,000 for it.... someone would buy it...simply because it was expensive and "must be worth something"
    3. EVERYTHING can have a price put on it. I would never sell my 78' 308GTS. I just love it.... but if someone offered a ridiculous amount of money for it.... then I bet I would.

I bought mine to drive.....not make money. If it happens....it happens.

    It wil happen one day......

At the last BJ auction the Euro 308qv sold for more than the Testarossa($52k vs $50k) and the announcer said the 308qv took a 15-20% HIT because of it being a Euro car (because it might not be emissions compliant I guess)
So that puts a nice US 308 in the $60k range now.
(I think once they are re-disovered by collectors , they will be scouped up and prices will soar.)

    BigTex.....................for a LONG TIME....LOL!

They have actually been 'trending upward' for over ten years.......but it's a VERY gradual climb that really only applies to well kept (books, tools, service records) examples.....glad to see it in Cavallino, but try using that as collateral at a bank! We are on our own here, gang...putting our money where our mouth is....or on the Internet, I guess it's our fingers!

you keep collecting these things like pop cans and you will be rich someday.
You might even have enough $$ to buy one of those old EL-DOGs.

Of course, that assumes you live long enough eating all that "healthy' Texas BBQ.........................LOL....

I figured it's about time for me to chime in and remind everyone that we have this discussion every year.

    Have values gone up, some.

But not as much as everyone thinks.

I haven't followed the market like some of you guys, but I've noticed most older Farraris have appreciated recently, some faster than others. But here's my take on the subject:

When people start sinking big bucks into restoring a car, the "originals" begin to appreciate.

So if you want the 308 to be more valuable, some of you need to auction off a 100 point vehicle...

    Agree? Disagree?

Exactly my point, only the clean ones set the upper market...

The rusted, mis-tuned, burned ones continue their descent as worn out old cars.....

    And go to the chopper....

Yeah, standing there getting a picture taken with Mario next to his car. LOL

That blue, is it metalic? Does it have the paint code or name?

I have "Certificato di Identificazione" on both cars. They are blessed originale by the Holy ones.

21181 was originaly Montecarlo Blu 20-A-548

I contacted Ferrari to see if I could get a paint chip or something to indicate the correct shade, because every car I have seen in that color, all of three (a Boxer, a 246, and a GT4), were all different shades from each other. Ferrari told me they made only in small batches for each car specifically. So not only is the car hand made, and one off, but so is the paint?

I figure I can paint it any kind of medium non metalic blue and be "okay". No?

True story. 21181 is red. I found it red, and the 308 GTB register had it listed as red for years before I found it.

I got the car off the trailer and my wife helped me roll it into the garage and we started cleaning it up. An hour or so later he says, "the car tells me it wants to be blue". I looked at her like she was nuts. She simply said she couldnt explin it, just something telling her the car is blue.

When I had the rear wheel wells out to work on the car, I seen traces of blue up in the quarter panels. Later, when I had the nose apart, I found more. Then I get the "Certificato" and there it is.

I am going to see if Algar can confirm or deny if it had boxer trim, but I think I will boxer it up anyway.

Last one is what we will think of these cars sans "iniezione di aria", and euro bumpers, etc...

THAT is a STORY, right there! Un REAL!

    *twilight zone music*

    Well, there ya go!

There a color chart floating around the site I'll see if I can find it...true they mixed small batches but Ferrari of Houston body shop has the BIG computer matching system....you need to uncover a big enough patch to scan though.

You have seen Mr. Leventhal's Boxer rebuild?

I had a long chat with Martin at Cavallino Motors who persuaded me against any color changes on mine, from original...these cars really are on the cusp of importance.........before we switch to hydrogen..........;)

I have found many Ferrari color charts. None I have seen show that blue.

I dont think I could find a chip big enough or clean enough to get a good match, and really, from what I have seen, I can understand why they only painted four or so cars that color and why mine is now red. No offense to anyones blue car, but 20-A-548 is not a real pretty blue IMHO. Yours is a pretty blue, as is Johng's.

I have seen Alex's car, and Morcals, and there is someone else.... None match each other, yet all are same color code. So if all are same code, but different hues, what difference as long as I am close? If Ferrari cant tell me what shade it is, who else can with any real authority? I dont think anyone could really argue that your color, or johng's, was not a 20-A-548. My thinking is, I dont want to paint it red, so I may as well paint it blue. Just a different shade. No?

Hydrogen? No, I would just jet it up and make some hooch to burn in it, or E-85. I bet with some compression it would really like that crap. Dont know how the fuel system would though, some say its bad. Maybe in the future they will sell 195 proof right at the pump. Maybe a castor oil and nitro blend would make it nice on the fuel system? Boy, that would burn your eyes.

LOL! We'll get some Sunoco to 'entertain the fans' at the 2025 F1 races..

Call FoH and ask Steve Egyed Body Shop Manager to get you a decent sample..........

My blue was an old Dino color still in use in 1977.

You have my curiousity up to see your shade now.....I agree another color you like would be as good......salute to the Mrs.'s uncanny intuitive skills, also!
