    Folks,

Good taste in cars does hopefully come with good taste in other areas.
I am planning on a major remodeling of my kitchen area and was wondering if you have something to show and share.

Thanks. Finally got the marble back-splashes in, that took forever to get and put in, I need to take a final set of pics for that thread.

Still haven't installed the TV-bookshelf thingie. I made it 16 months ago, and bought the flat screen 6 months ago! Still just sitting in the shop.

My girlfriend and I just got a new place... it was built in 1990 and hasn't been touched since then.

Before we move in, we're going to:
Replace all the floors in the house with hardwood, re-tile the kitchen and bathrooms, redo all the light fixtures, re-paint the walls and ceilings, and redo the kitchen.

The cabinets are in great shape, and were probably top of the line back in 1990, so we'll probably just strip and paint them.

The counter tops are cheap / ugly laminate, so we're planning on putting black granite down. Might also enlarge the island a little bit and put a butcher's block on top.

ALL the appliances need to go. We were first going to take the cheap way out and get low end stainless steel appliances, since we really don't cook too much. After looking around, we've decided on all Bosch appliances, Refrigerator, gas range, dishwasher, and microwave. I'm trying to decide, not really for me, but maybe for future buyers, if getting a sub zero refrigerator and wolf/viking range would be worth it when we go to sell the house. I'm just not sure if the house is in the price range where those sort of appliances are expected. I have by reading some home improvement forums gathered that Bosch has a reputation similar to those other brands listed to laypeople... so I'm not sure.

Needless to say, we'll be at Lowes a lot over the next 2 months.

I'm just about done with mine - still have crown molding and some trim to do. I like how the accent on the floor turned out. Good luck with the remodel! -m

Nice work urotrash. Some nice kitchens here. My place (first place) is an old ranch style house with an acre built in the 50s. Kitchen is small and L shaped mostly done in white. So far all I've done is install hardwood flooring and buy a new fridge but I'd like to bust out the wall and open it up, then install some granite and some other new things (new undercabinet tv, new cabinets?) its pretty simple right now :( sucks having more than a few people in there. Here's pics:

While I'm at it here are some other pics of my place. My girlfriends kawai piano and yes she did most of the decorating which I just agreed with pretty much. That walnut wall in the living room is real and original to the house.

Do you mind me asking what kind of price range your home would sell for? In my opinion, the investment in Subzero and Viking appliances would probably not give you the return that you're looking for. Some consumers might even be turned off by them (in average homes) because repair bills could get quite expensive. Spend your money on counter tops, flooring and cabinets.

Comps in that area... if we modernize that house ~ $500-550.

I think we're pretty set on Bosch though, unless the local Wolf dealer can give us a really good price on one of their ranges.

    My girlfriend hardly cooks so...

I agree with your decision to look toward Bosch. Unless you really want a Viking or Subzero, I wouldn't spend the money.
