Page #104 of the March SCM. VIN ZFFXA20A8G0061575 1986 Ferrari 328 grey/black GTS coup just sold for $41,800 at the Hilton Head auction. It had 99,899 miles on the odometer!
Could the miles be a typo error, like it really should have read 39K instead of 99k? If it really had 99k miles, that's an amazing amazing price!
Sometimes I get sick of all the attention ($$$) paid to mileage on used F-cars. Unless it's a collector Ferrari worth $150K or more, mileage shouldn't matter so much -- so long as the car has been treated properly and well maintained. I have an '81 308 with 84,000 miles on the clock. The engine has never been rebuilt. Throughout the entire time of my ownership (I bought the car at 50K miles) as well as the previous owner's (original owner), the car has always been very well cared for and serviced diligently. It is still very tight, and in many ways better than when it left the factory. The engine is still very strong. I'll stack my "driver" up against any other 308 out there, and I see no reason whatsoever why the 'market' thinks my car is worth $5,000+ less than some garage queen with only 20K miles on it. Bull!@#$!! If I ever want to sell it, and no one wants to give me a reasonable price just because they don't like the mileage, I'll likely part it out, instead...
So this is less then 5000 miles a year. Sounds like a low milage car to me. Now if it had 20,000 miles a year I would call that a high milage car. Come down to earth folks.
I don't equate "high mileage" to "abused". In fact, a car with higher mileage has been driven and probably been maintained well. My 308GTB has about 75k kilometers on it and is GREAT. I plan to add many more. rick Image Unavailable, Please Login
Interestingly enough, Ferrari NA itself says that the average Ferrari is driven 4,000 miles per year and lasts (i.e. driven on the road) for 9 years.
It needs a Major Service (~~ $3k for a 328 in the U.S.). Add in a ~~10% auction fee and that 99,899 mile 1986 328 cost the buyer $49k to do it right. $49 grand for a high mileage 1986 328. Remember that when people tell you that auctions aren't the right venue for selling Ferraris.
Grigio -- Italian for "grey". It's a metallic color. See http://ferrari328.com/gallery.html for mine in the same color I have almost 100,000 miles on my 328, never been apart, still pulling factory horsepower numbers on the dyno.
What is the context of this statement? Is FNA saying that after 9 years or 36,000 miles, the cars are toast? Or, are they referring to the average span of the term of ownerships lasting 9 years before changing hands?
the mileage thing is alot of bull i have an 89 328 we have had since new it has 48,000 on it and runs like it did in 89 every thing is still tight body and doors included, has had proper service and care always also i know someone with a 308 with over 90000 on it and its a good running and sound car so it seems to me that the great mileage myth on the ferraris is just that a myth there have been alot of threads on here with people talking about their mileage being above 80,000 and still going strong so if it was properly maintained and cared for, body and interior are tight you are better off with some miles under its belt no sitting in the garage leaks etc.
