There are several laws they are suppose to meet. Many never do. First and foremost, they are suppose to lower the angle of their headlights to aim more down onto the road. When the truck gets lifted, the angle of the headlights remain at the same height as before. That's why it shines right into your rear view mirror.

I think there should be a law preventing people from driving little cars that are too close to the road.

 

I had an "Old Style" '71 Bronco with a modest 3" lift. It had a chrome light bar with four lights on it. At the base of the each light there was a connector that was pulled when driving on the road. I would plug them in when off-road. Problem was, because I had the top removed I could reach them easliy while driving and the law doesn't allow that in my state.

Most states have laws...........

 

a buddy of mine was a civil war reenactor. his unit was artillery so when they went to an event he would haul his cannon in his pickup. he told me never was tailgated. down here it's pickup central. i'd estimate 60% of the vehicles i encounter are trucks. it's somewhat disconcerting when i'm stopped at a light and i look over and i"m staring at the lock out hubs on a mud bogger.

 

oh god...lifted trucks.

i just laugh when they have to make evasive maneuvers and the truck looks like a toy bouncing all around trying to get balanced/centered again.

that, and it just increases the size of their blind spot...they should add huge mirrors if they're gonna do that [which nearly none do], because if i'm next to it, or slightly in front of it, they probably won't see me un;ess they add some mirrors to make up for the visibility they lose from being higher up [a
'la trailers and buses]

 

That is one of my pet peeves. I find a LOT of people who drive high-end sedans drive on permanent high beams, as if they are entitled to see more of the road while everyone else has to avoid blindness.

As for trucks that blind you from the back: my car automatically dims the mirrors in this case, but in my other car it is a nightmare. There really should be a stronger enforcement of those setups.

 

I can't stand those guys in ridiculous lifted trucks. Every time I see one, I comment on how small their peni* must be...

 

That's only because everyone that thinks that has one.

Always been into lowered trucks. Think lifted trucks look good when done right. But would never build one.

 

Then there are the buttheads that have the hi-beams on, you flash yours for a split second (ABOUT NINE TIMES!) and the STILL leave them on and blast their horn at you when they pass you! On the flip side, there are thousands of Seniors who's night vision sucks and should not be on the road after dark, as they have to have their hi-beams on just to see!

The DMV needs to develop some sort of test to see how good peoples night vision is, just as critical (IMH) as a general vision test.

 

They say the exact same thing about us in our expensive sport cars. I live in a hicks heaven Hooterville and every third Ford or Chevy shortbed truck is about ten feet off the ground! I swear, it's highschool in the late 70's all over again! There's a hillbilly up here with a 16" lift on his POS Eighty-something Chevy longbed that has a 2" rollbar cage around the ENTIRE truck, sides and all! We also have a jacked up '69 VW Bug and a Pinto Wagon up here!

 

I like some slightly lifted trucks, but most of the time it's just stupid...

My wife and I were talking about it, she says "why are you always making fun of these people with huge trucks". I say "you can't drive the f'n thing on the road, it's totally useless, not only that it looks stupid". She says "Yeah, but you can't really "drive" a Ferrari on city streets either".....

She kinda had a point...as much as I hate to say it.

 

Train horns are nice, very audible in those traffic moments......but sometimes you can take it one step further.

We all get togeather and compare footcandle statistics, exciting stuff.

 

not sure if you guys realize it but a lot of those guys with the lifted pickups purposely position their truck behind you at stoplights so that their lights are beaming right in your face. They drive me nuts... not really a whole lot I can do about it though - they'll have it coming eventually.

 

A friend of mine always does this in his H2, only because he used to drive a small car and knows how annoying it is.
