....where I could begin my search for my "dream" 308? I love my present GTSi but I'd love to add a second 308 to the herd, and since I've recently bought a 400i, I can't take the BBi plunge just yet so I'm thinking that if I could find my dream 308 in the right spec I'll make that the next addition. It would be as follows: 1985 GTB QV Euro model. Silver over red/burgundy. Must retain the small bumpers and proper 16" wheels. Anyone know where such a car might lurk? Cheers, Aaron '82 GTSi '83 400iA
In all honesty, if I were looking for a car that was that specific (i.e., Euro, silver/burgundy), and were ideally in "show car" condition, I'd look where everyone else looks for Euro cars -- Europe. I'm honestly not trying to be a smart@$$ - it's something I've considered before myself, but only got hung up on CA Emissions requirements. Roy Cats, of LamborghiniChat fame, has purchased a couple Miuras from Europe (to WA state) and said the importing process really wasn't *that* bad. I don't know what the requirements are like in OH, but if it were me, I'd certainly look for that "perfect" example across the pond if I had any hopes of actually finding it. Best of luck...
Aaron, Most definitely Europe would be my ideal searching ground, and I guess looking for such a specific car would probably necessitate my putting the bug in some dealers' ears in various countries. Obviously, I'd want a left hand drive car so England would be out, but I'd guess that on the mainland there have to be a few 308s in *my* spec running around. I have some contacts in the Netherlands , Spain and Germany so I'll get to shooting some e-mails out to them and see what we come up with for starters. It would also be beneficial to get a car from across the pond so I could leave it as "Euro-spec" as possible, as compared to a federalized grey-market specimen. Cheers, Aaron '82 GTSi '83 400iA
The fact that you want a GTB is another reason to look in Europe. There were not nearly as many QV GTBs brought to this country. I think you have excellent taste! GTBs rule!! Birdman
Jonathan, I've always loved the Berlinetta over the Spyder. Don't get me wrong, I've certainly enjoyed being able to pop the top every now and then and go for a cruise on a perfect day, but my preference in cars (no matter the make) has always been fixed-roof over open top. As an example, I scoured the country looking for my *perfect* MG, which I eventually found (only three hours away from Cincinnati!!). A 1967 MGB-GT in British Racing Green with Black leather seats and red piping. All original, unmolested. Have owned that car for years, probably will be buried in it! Cheers, Aaron '82 GTSi '83 400iA
