They could have at least put a Northstar in it...."I have had it almost 80 mph" at least a Fiero would run 80

You guys are just not getting this! - The creator of this project obviously wanted an honest cast-iron pushrod motor with the cachet of having been widely used in a chebrolet pickup truck! (S-10, remember? He may even have one of those 40 Ford plastic hotrod kits on an S-10 frame, too).

Before we judge too harshly, remember that GM themselves has bypassed the Northstar in some of the latest hi-performance Caddy sedans and used a good old Corvette pushrod motor! (although I suspect that they were just too lazy to adapt a manual transmission to the NorthStar). They also have just about expunged the delightful ZR1 engine from Corvette memory as well.

I wonder of Norwood could somehow hook up a pair of old turbo Corvair engines back to back and do a Testarossa in this same spirit?

Yes, he could and would, with a proper budget.

Years ago, someone had a Lamborgini Urraco in for service at Norwoods. The Urraco had a Pinto engine. It is really sad to see economy transplants.

    Ditto.

The engine is wrong, but the idea isn't all that bad. The thing would DEFINITELY be more reliable with any engine other than the original.

Granted, this is blasphemy of sorts, but I would probably enjoy doing the same damm thing to my 355 if the engine didn't sound soooo good. Think about it: I've already spent close to $40k on engine-related repairs for my 355 - just think of the crazy a$$, high horsepower small block I could have put in there instead with less than 1/3 the amount of money!!!??? And to top that, after I put a small block in it, I could drive the thing for 100k miles without much more than oil changes instead of $6-8k every 15,000 miles for belt changes.

Think about it, a bullet proof 500-600hp small block Corvette engine in it - that would be pretty sweet... if the first Ferrari fan didn't shoot me after seeing what I did to a 355 :p

Putting a non-Ferrari engine in a Ferrari is an act of desecration. The engine is the soul and heart of any Ferrari. Without it, it is just another car. If someone can't afford the maintenance, they should just by another car.

Just got Hemmings Motor News last night and in the Racing & Hi-Performance section is a color ad for a silver Maserati Ghibli which had an engine swap to chevy small block. It did not say what the transmission was. Price 29,000.

Somehow, this does not seem quite so awful...(maybe they could have even gone one better and used the overhead cam LT5/ZR1). And, those older Jag sedans with the 350 I guess had some kind of cowboy logic.

After all, that's how we got the Cobra and the Lister Corvette...

But PLEASE - NOT a Fiero into a Ferrari!

    Something is fishy.

I didn't know the body line of 308s was this nonlinear. (unlike 328s at least)

Can a 308er confirm that is what it looks like?

I say it is a kit car with a 308 interior.

What a sacriledge. The 4 cam Ghibli motor is a true thing of wonder (dry sump and all) and a real plus for what is more of a "muscle car" than a sports car.

It is however one of the more expensive engines to build and at the price of a so-so Ghibli coupe it's a budget buster.
