This is a shot of the rear quarter of a GT4 that I looked at a while back. The rear bumper on this car has been replaced. Im wondering if this is some sort of 'normal' body bracket or if it is bad body work or something else? This looks identical on the opposite quarter panel. I'm assuming that the original US bumper would have hidden this, but maybe not... This pic is looking down towards the rear of the car.

Without being in front of my car, I can't confirm, but I believe your suspicions are correct - that is, the original US bumper would've hidden whatever that is...

My thought is that the US bumper would normally cover this up. This car has a (?)Euro bumper rather than the US bumper.

Ok, I've been told that the factory "US" bumper actually screws into this bracket that is in the picture above and that this bracket has had the screw hole filled in and its been painted over. Does this sound correct? Perhaps someone who has had their bumper off can comment...
    TIA,

Ok, Page 157 of the GT4 parts manual (http://dino308gt4.com/downloads/308GT4PartsManual.pdf)
seems to confirm the above. It appears that item 17 is the bolt that attaches the bumper to the rear quarter. It looks like this goes thru the quarter panel...I'd still be interested to hear from someone who has removed their US bumper completely...

    What year GT4?

Could it be a Euro car "converted" to US bumpers?

The US bumpers were changed late in the series 1 timeframe to a less (still very ugly) protruding design. The S2-3 bumpers don't fasten to the fenders allowing the bumper to cycle during impact. There is a large rubber pad at each corner to hide the gap between the bumper and body. The pads are attached to the fenders with 2-3 small bolts but doesn't look like what is shown in the photo.

It's a '75 car that had US bumpers. The ones on it now are Euro I think..? Anyway, they were changed at some point. A previous owner said that the original US bumpres bolted right to the quarter panels...this is supposedly the bracket that the bumper side bolted into. It has since been filled and painted over. Looks ugly. I'm just trying to confirm if anyone else has seen this...
