We seemed to have miscategorized soft rock as progressive

    What is 'soft rock' ?

People think Carole King is 'soft rock' or even 'pop', but take a listen to 'Jazzman' cranked up, it's great, and it isn't 'soft'. Same goes for ABBA - listen to 'SOS' or 'Waterloo' cranked, and Alan Parsons 'Psycho-babble' as well...

Webby: I left out Elvis Costello and The English Beat/General Public, try them.

Adult Contemporary and soft rock are one and the same to me...

'Adult' = kids hate it, no matter what it is.

    'Contemporary' = 'oldies'

'Soft Rock' = anything that sounds good with the volume down low.

I love soft rock..that wasnt a negative comment.

But Im sorry... Most of the bands being mentioned arent progressive and I thought that was the subject.

    Elvis Costello
    English Beat
    General Public
    Sonic Youth
    Meat Puppets
    Minutemen
    fIREHOSE
    Mike Watt
    X

While I would agree all good bands I wouldnt call any of them progressive. Not looking to be difficult but Im pretty sure those artists themselves would deny they are progressive.

Here's a progressive sound from the 70's. A Canadian band. The whole album is great.

Loved prog since childhood. Hands down the best current prog rock band is Sons of Apollo IMO.
