You can see in these clips that the raw pace was always there, but he is so much smoother now, almost schumi like in the way he flow's and balance's the car from turn in to apex to exit. learnt hell of a lot from the masteri would say! Lets hope he can continue to improve and wipe out the mistakes ! That move on Villeneuve was awsome, almost the same as kimi's on fisi at the same place !!!
Remy, I hope you meant "Massa bashers", not "bangers" or I have to remove this thread for sexual content. That said, Massa will do a great job this year collecting valuable points for Ferrari's Constructor title.
I think the difference between both onboard clips show primarily the superior balance of the Ferrari over the Sauber, allthough I do believe Massa has matured a lot since his stint at Sauber. He is quick and he knows what to do with great material. Kimi and him will make a great pairing and interestingly Ferrari have allready announced that they do allow both drivers to actually race eachother. So it is up to Massa to prove to the world he can beat Raikkonen in similar material, and it is up to Raikkonen that he can be a title contender when the car actually stays in one piece. Whether or not they are in the running for the title, remains to be seen.
But Alonso is better, Senna was and will always be the best and Schumacher is a cheat! So, now that's out of the way - go Massa!
Kimi will push very hard ( he has to make people forget Schumi ), he still has to prove everything at F! Massa 's chance to take the title is this year, as long as the car keeps fit, he'll be faster than Kimi... Bigodino! What do you mean: Schumi is a cheat? Are you talking about the Monaco-parking-maneuver? That was no fault, that was "devine liberty!" Like Maradona's hand that touched the ball, it was sent by God! Those things happen only to geniusses, you know! BTW you say Alonso's better? Then, where was the Spaniard at the last race in Brazil? Massa was just flying!
Alonzo, Senna ans Schumacher all cheated. People cry about MS because he's been racing for a lot longer and has cheated more times. His ratio of cheating per season is the same as any other F1 driver who has ever won.
Guys, my post was meant as a joke. It's typical of this section that everytime a driver is discussed the names of particularly Senna and Schumacher get dragged into it (and who was best, cheated etc.) Because Brian has started this post trying to counter weight the Massa bashers I thought it was appropriate to make this joke. In conclusion: all drivers past and present have their good and bad sides. Now let's concentrate on Massa and his job at hand. Let's wait and see how the championship will evolve. It's going to be interesting for sure! Best, Peter
I think that all of the top drivers sometimes have their judgment clouded by their tremendous desire to win, red mist, etc....that's why Lauda's decision in Japan in 1976 was so extraordinary; you know AS and MS wouldn't have pulled out. That's why I hold Lauda in such high regard-when have you ever seen him make a questionable/stupid/dangerous move?
couldn't have put it better myself hehe......... guys remember, the first clip was in a busted arse sauber and then in a ferrari, thats a huge technical difference in the how a car behaves..... give a ferrari to any F1 driver and there would be a noticeable improvement in how they approach driving.
Massa 2005 Sauber Monza-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d36tXXPhbjQ Massa 2006 Ferrari Monza-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcUGC_GoVnc Shumacher 2006 Monza-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWRUSqjmXzo Obvious differences in each one of these. You can see that Massa has made a jump in overall driving ability since coming to Ferrari. You can also see how much Schumacher outclasses Massa. Schumacher drives a near perfect lap, turning in at exactly the right time, keeping it off the grass, and finishes .003 behind the pole. This is the difference between a 7-time world champ and Massa. If anyone can find Kimi's pole lap, please post it.
i agree you cant compare the car balance between the old sauber & new ferrari....lol thats like comparing a vespa vs. ducati.....
Brian, the clips really doesn't prove a thing, that Sauber was an understeering pig and seemed very nervous all the time. Put MS or anybody in that same car and he'll look just like Massa did. The Ferrari seemed to understeer a bit too but nowhere near as bad as the Sauber. A great car can make anybody look good. But great car didn't get that way by itself and that's where MS excelled. Massa and Kimi don't have the same amount of feedback and the team will suffer for it. That will be the biggest difference this year.
The only problem is that Sauber DID put Heidfeld and Fisi in the other car and both of them outdrove Massa. The car may have been poor handling but on a relatve basis, a decent driver ought to still look good, even if just in comparison to his teammate. Schumacher might not have made the Sauber into a GP winner but he would have certainly outshone his teammate in the same car. Massa has NEVER beaten his teammate. Doesn't matter if he is in a pig like the Sauber or a gem like the Ferrari, he has consistently demonstrated only one quality, the ability to be consistently beaten by his teammmate. I am not impressed.
I agree with you, yet it seems so many folks on here rather root/trust in Massa than in Kimi. I have thought about that one long and hard and just can't figure out why that is. Not trying to stirr the pot here, honestly. For the life of me I do not understand why anybody would give Massa more chances at the title than Kimi. Maybe some Massa supporters care to explain?
I thought the decision to bring Massa on board in '06 was bad, then whenever I thought I saw a sign from him that maybe it was good, he fcuked up. Monte Carlo's spin in qualifying, the Hungarian debacle where he went backwards at warp speed, at Monza he was thrashed by a less experienced Kubica in an inferior car, etc. As I said on another post, he reminds me of Patrese-a nice #2 driver.... Once Kimi acclimates himself to the team and gets some miles in he'll spank Massa......
I think it's because people realize the Ferrari is superior and easy enough to handle, that Massa can beat everyone else on the grid as long as the track is dry. Mclaren has been unreliable lately, and Renault has a slower driver and a rookie. People who place Massa's chances higher than Kimi's, realize that he's had more experience with the Ferrari car/team, and the bridgestone tires. There is also an idea floating around that Kimi is tough on the machinery. That, and Kimi has said himself that the bridgestones don't suit his driving style. Kimi isn't Ayron Senna, or Alain Prost. He lacks the technical knowlege and the ability to develop/motivate a team to perform, the way Senna, Prost and Schumacher have done. Who knows, maybe Kimi will develop into one of them, but I haven't seen any indication that he is already. So basically the only thing Kimi has over Felipe is raw pace, which can be equalized to a degree by the reasons i've already mentioned: Kimi's inexperience, Felipe's familarity with the tires etc.
Ferrari is about history. Massa even with one year has that. KR was the dark side, now in a red car. A year from now all will be forgotten. KR will be the new savior.
