Does anyone know what drives will work on Windows 98?
Yes. MyBook. As per the manual: Windows 98SE You must install the device drivers on your system. Go to Go to support.wdc.com, click Downloads, locate your product name, and download the device driver installer onto your computer desktop.
Eck. It's so ugly. My favorite is the Lacie Porsche designed 500gb harddrive. I don't have a website on me, but pcmall.com sells it for like 200$ or so, my buddy gets them to me for 170$ and some change. I'm thinking about buying a few and creating a usb raid. Still up in the air though. BTW - If anyone needs discounted computer parts in bulk, let me know and I might be able to help out like Adam did with IBM's.
Does anyone have any familiarity with NAS systems such as the Intel SS4000ENA listed on Newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822106001. These seem to be the answer for me as I could set the various networked computers in the house to back up to the NAS and have it set up for Raid 1 or 5 depending on the number of hard drives I put in it. I am interested in going this route, but I don't know much about such systems.
No, but I've heard amazing things about this company. http://www.wiebetech.com click on storage systems.
My friend, if you still have Windows98 it's about time you think about getting a new computer. The reasons are 2 fold actually 1) You're just missing out on a large experience on what owning a very stable computer is like with all the multimedia tool, productivity tools, and a slew of other features. 2) Windows9x is just inherently insecure, and I believe they stopped support for it so any new exploits that come out won't be covered, you could be helping a botnet unaware! One for you, one for me If you want something simple that works, look no further than an iMac. I got my uncle one yesterday (he's a doctor, and no offense to him but he's the most un-computer person ever) and he's already put almost half of his cd collection into iTunes and created a party playlist. His past few computers I've bought and built for him, this one he setup all himself. It's that easy.
I dont have one but i think i´ll buy this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7696834&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat107700050005&id=1138083976323 Or i dont know, which one did you suggest to buy it i dont want to pay more than 150 dls.
I have a 250gig acomdata (made by seagate) hard drive that works great. I store tons of movies and tv shows on it and I haven't had any problems so far.
With one of those could you use it on a XBOX360? Im not wanting to do it as i have the one for it already. Just wondering. These are the USB ports for the wired controllers and digital camera/iPod. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
40gb is not enough. Get something with at least 250gb because you're going to run out of space quickly Can't you just replace the harddrive on the xbox360? http://www.hackaday.com/2006/03/05/xbox-360-hard-drive-adapter/ http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/microsoft/xbox-360-hard-drive-leaked-at-70-gigs-212862.php http://www.xbox360hdd.com/xbox360-hard-drive.php http://www.xbox-scene.com/tutorials-xbox360/open-xbox360-hdd-drive.php I think the harddrive is really just a simple replace.
Yeah that´s a true but what did you think of this one http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7955224&productCategoryId=pcmcat107700050005&type=product&tab=1&id=1152837300414
For a hundred bucks get this instead http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822136022 It's got 250gb instead of 120gb. Remember, the longer you wait, the more gb you can get per dollar. Prices are ALWAYS falling. http://www.pcmall.com/pcmall/shop/detail~dpno~7088361.asp That's the one I'm probably going to order. Maybe four of them and put them into a raid array. I am getting them for about 170$/each. That's 70$ more than that 250gb you showed me, but it has twice the room.
I just transferred everything from my MyBook onto my new computer. A seamless, flawless transition that only took an hour and 27 minutes. I'm very happy. I'm thumbing through all of my data right now and my EHD is off and disconnected. It barely got warm.
I just put a 300GB Seagate 3.5" drive into a Acomdata 509 external data case running firewire. Total cost $150
