I'm going to bet that 99% of the people who own a 308 do not get the brakes hot enough to hurt anything. (You would be an exception to that rule I'm sure!!!)

Those are way too large for the 308 brakes anyway. I'll look into this material though.

    Thanks for the heads up!

Well, here they are! I have no idea if they will melt off the car in normal driving, but they sure look good. I'm selling them for $8 a set (3 in a set...2 for the front calipers, and one extra if you screw up) including shipping. What the heck, at least they are cheap as dirt. I only got 48 of them made as an experiment, so when they are gone, they are gone, unless there is enough interest to re-order.

You will have to wait for spring for a road test but maybe Henry will give us a road test in CA shortly. (He is part of the beta test team!)

And no, this is not my next amazing invention, but that is coming soon!

    Thanks Chris!!

It wasn't very obvious in the above post I guess, but there is a link to my website to buy them. I have gotten a couple PMs. I have them in red, yellow and black. CHECK IT OUT by following this link

Like I said, this was just a short run because I wanted some and so I had a few made for others as people indicated interest. It was cheaper in bulk. When they are gone, they are gone!

    Jonathan,

It looks fantastic in that pic. When I get them, I'll paint up the calipers (and repace the pads, remove the dust shields, dial in a little more camber & caster) and put them on. I'll do then do some drives and report back.

    Wow, I feel kind of special...like I've got a special assignment :)

Can't wait to see what the new invention is...

Oh man, this is the third time I have had to come up with a clever response to Henry's post and I'm running out of ideas! I wish the server would stop crashing and losing all my cleverness. ;)

So, henry, to go with your assignment, should you choose to accept it.....some music.

Hey look Ma, I'm posting on FerrariChat

No way! One server crashing couldn't make you lose your cleverness. It'd take a server a whole week for that to happen...oh wait...oops. ;-)

Still waiting for the stickahs. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Mon or Tues.

    I'm on the case Bird...

Birdman thanks for sending the decals for my 328. I have a question though, your site says they fit a 308 front caliper will they fit a 328 rear caliper as well. If they do I will get another set.

    Thanks
    Dave

dave, they won't fit a 308 rear caliper because there is that cap to cover the adjustment screw right smack dab in the middle of the caliper blocking a place to put them. I am not familiar with the 328 calipers, so you'll have to look on yours and see. Should be able to tell without pulling the wheel.

not to rain on the parade :0 (they look great!) but you'd be suprised at how HOT the calipers and rortors get when used normally. remeber brake fluid is designed to handle heat around the 250~350F* at the track it exceed that easily. the brake has to convert mechanical energy to heat, one of those pesky laws of thermodynamics. so with all that energy, it's going to get HOT! and is i wasn't so lazy i'd get the formula for converting mechanical energy into heat ;)

that's also why the paint used is high temp paint. you could still use the vinyl decal but use the negitive as a stencil and get an art sponge and dab the paint onto the caliper.

    looking great!

285ferrari had this link above, to a guy selling "high temperature" brake decals. He does not say what they are made of. I emailed him twice and got no response. I e-mailed the company that made my vinyl brake stickers and they called their supplier to verify what they thought, which is that there is no such thing as high temp vinyl. Now maybe these are made of something else, but the guy who lists them on ebay isn't going to say what it is. I'm investigating further, but I'm about ready to play the Bullsh*t card!

Meanwhile, my engineering team all over the globe ;) is testing the run of plain old vinyl ones to see how they work. We will report back! If they melt, they were a cheap experiment.

OK, I need a serious track guy to take a set of my stickers (free!) and test them under some hard conditions. Lets see how bad they melt. Anyone want to take me up on my offer? Hurry while I still have a choice of colors!!

He's saying 600F.....there are very very few plastics it could be, certainly not vinyl, not even teflon. Polyemide (sp?) maybe. I'm thinking aluminum foil, but the adhesive, no idea.

Hi birdman, for the 348 you dont need the decals or stencils since the "FERRARI" script on the calipers is raised, all you need to do is clean out the script (raised) after painting and it looks fine( though its in silver) you might want to overlay it with Black.

The highest temp plastic/adhesive combination that I know of is the high temp powdercoating masking tape. It has to be good to at least 475F-500F. I suspect it's a polyamid, but haven't actually investigated the material.

However, if a brake caliper got into that temp region, I wouldn't be upset with a melted decal as I'd have boild the brake fluid & most likely ruined the piston seals.

My injection molding tables list Vinyl & Vinal co-polymer injection temperatures as 300F-450F depending on the mfg's specs. When injecting plastic it has to be very liquid in order to pick up fine detail.

So I suspect that the decal material's melting point will be well below that temp. range. How much below I don't have time to go research. Have fun testing guys...

Well here's what I ended up doing with my setup. I got the "stickahs" (those in the NE know what I'm talking about) from Jonathan and they look great. I decided to go with a more subtle look. I figured if I was going to paint the calipers, I might as well change my pads. I went with Porterfield R4-S (free shipping in Dec (thanks again Birdman). I had the rotors turned and decided to dial in a little more neg. camber and more caster. While I'm there, I might as well repack the bearings. I also removed the dust shields and this is what I ended up with. I'll have some pix with the wheel on soon. I should hopefully have everything back together by the end of the week. Then, I'll report back with some real world testing.

I looked carefully at my rear calipers today and I think I might be able to sneak a sticker on there at the edge, even with that adjuster cap right in the middle. I'll investigate further when I install the rear shocks.

Let me know if you need more "stickahs" for the back, bro!

Now get out there and do some braking! ;)

I'm just catching up with all the threads.

Looks good Henry. It does look mean.

Man, i should have gotten those too. Just to many projects and not enough time.:(

i'm just casting the vote that those poor vinyl stickas are going to suffer :( anyone see brakes glow from stopping? work a corner at any local autoX and you'll see it, and these are speeds you use on the street.

    Otherwise, loooooking goooood!
