No, the days of Foyt, Gurney, Andretti racing anything they can get into have been long gone for 25 years, with the possible exception of Robby Gordon, then a gap, then Tony Stewart and Kenny Schrader. I guess we could lump Casey Mears in there somewhere..

 

You could also toss in Nigel Mansell, Tom Kristensen, Sebastian Bourdais etc.

Depends on your taste really. I'd much prefer DTM or ALMS to NASCAR any day. Not trying to badmouth the series, it's just not for me. Much like JPM's personal preference was NASCAR over F1. I don't see why we need to contantly question drivers like JPM or MS simply because they tell people that they personally do or do not like a particular series.

1st and 2nd are locked in.

They also are on pole position for the two 125 mile races. The rest of the qualifying field then fills out these grids: odd qualifiers 3,5 ... in the race with the 1st place qualifier and evens with the second.

The winner of the odd 125 starts in 3rd (unless he is already on pole) and the even winner starts in 4th (unless he is already starting 2nd).

At least that is how I think it works, but I'm not a huge NASCAR fan I usually just keep up with the results. I cant stand to watch 490 miles of cars passing each other for nothing in order to see 5 laps (as long as their isn't a caution) of important racing.

 

You are correct, mostly.

The top 35 cars, based on last year's owners point standings (not drivers), are locked into the 500.

Qualifying determines the front row, as well as the order of the Twin 125's. The top two finishing cars of each 125 race (four total), that are not a "locked" car from the Top 35 standings from last year, clinch a spot in the 500. The finishing results of the Twin 125 races will determine the order of the race from positions 2 to 39. Positions 40-43 will then be set by the highest qualifying times from Sunday that have not locked in a spot.

NASCAR isn't for everyone. It's all about personal preference. Thankfully, I enjoy all forms of racing (expect drag). The "redneck" and NASCAR suck comments get old. Why even comment on a NASCAR thread if you have nothing positive to add to the conservation, then why even say anything? It's not as if Formula One, IRL, ChampCar, or whatever series you like are perfect.

Yes. The pit window is about 36-38 laps.

 

If I were MS, I don't think I'd want to take up an offer from a team accused of cheating with crew chiefs suspended, fines levied, points taken away, etc.

Sounds more like a publicity stunt on the part of Everham. Now, if Chip were to make the offer that's a totally different story imo.

In addition to the 1st row lock in, qualifying determines the starting order for the dual 150s, and more importantly determines pit box selection order.
