Is it just me or are doctors not into Ferrari's?
I know that one can afford a ferrari on a $350-550k income.

Most of them have $100k luxury cars or 911's.

There used to be a 400i I would see at a local dr.'s office sometimes.

The only sports cars I've seen in Dr. Parking have been Porsches. You usually see Lexus LS and S and SL class MB. My Dr. drives a E38 7 series.

Going off this logic, how many people driver their Ferraris to work? I suspect the number is quite low and the vehicles that you see at doctors' offices are daily drivers, not weekend toys.

I know of a dentist who has a 360 from Corpus Cristi, TX.
    I know of no doctors.

I used to joke that it was a LAW in Illinois that doctors had to have a Mercedes because just about all of them did.

Lots of lawyers seem to have BMWs. I met a trial lawyer from florida that owns several Ferraris.

I am a retired banker. Didn't feel I could own one when I was working as it would not project the conservative image I felt I needed in a small town. Had a MB SL500 and BMW 750iL and Porsche and Miata (not all at once).

I agree with Ike, and I know a lot of doctors, none of them own ferrari's, or any exotics.

Know an Orthodontist that has/had a TR. There is an anesthesiologist that is a next door neighbor of friends of mine that has an NSX and was looking to add a M400 to his garage...he's sorta a motorhead as he drives an M5 as his DD.

One of the docs in our town just broke the unspoken code against very high end cars, bought himself a yellow 355GTB and ACTUALLY DRIVES IT TO WORK! scandalous! :)

Last thing I'd ever want is to have an angry patient see a Ferrari outside the office!

It does seem like most docs, especially the older ones LOVE the larger sedans. I've worked in healthcare now for 8 years, and rarely see any sports cars, or even Sport Versions of Sedans in their parking lot. Just plain and classic- seems like Porsche does well with Dr's too.

Two Orthopods I work with now have a 360 though. One is a ferrari freak and through the years has always owned one.

    I'm a doc--430.

Marty (on this board), retired doc--430 and AM V8.

But my perspective--given the cost of medical care these days and the "health care crisis" (perceived or real) in this country--is that driving a really expensive car to work can lead to uncomfortable patient conversations. So, I suspect some docs avoid exotics just because of that.

Second, most docs make darn good money, but nothing like CEO/successful investment banker/high profile attorney money. And certainly nothing like music business/show business/sports star money. So, for others, these cars are hard to justify from a financial point of view.

Lastly, a lot of docs aren't gearheads. First, most of the population isn't. Second, it is hard to learn a lot about cars when your are in school for so long. Most docs don't have the money to buy these cars to be posers, and all of the docs I know who own exotics own them because they are into cars, not into being seen.

I, of course, realize that there are always exceptions to the rule.

About 5% of my patients know about my Ferrari. A few have even ridden in it (mostly at the track).

    Just random thoughts...

I recently bought a Mondial from a doctor who bought it new in 1982 - bright azzuro dino - it was his daily driver for the first 5 years of ownership. Needless to say, here in Raleigh, North Carolina he was a legend!!! Perhaps the original Dr. McDreamy!

Parent's has some friends who are doctors. This couple, one is a surgeon (specializes in hand) and the other one is an obstetrician. They own a Porsche 911 Carrera, VW Touareg, BMW M3 and Mini Cooper. They spend their money too much on lots of stuff.

Haven't been active for a couple of years, but we had no doctors in Denver with Ferraris back then.
Mostly guys who owned their own businesses.

I've never seen a Ferrari at the hospital. Most expensive car there was a new (at the time) 996 Turbo. A few S-classes, 7-series, etc. Another hospital had a new M5 and 997 Carerra. Imagine pulling up to a hospital with an F50 GT. Perfect car if you want to go under the radar. LOL!
