looked for accommodations in the pinehurst area. found the usual suspects all looked nice and were priced around $100 a nite w/ breakfast. distance is pretty equitable; 670 from boston, 653 from miami. are we getting closer to looking at dates? mid august has a two week break in the f1 season or do we want a race weekend?

I would suggest earlier in the season just so it isn't as hot.

Pinehurst looks too far south to me. It's on the south side of NC. We need something in north NC or south VA. Looks like a fabulous place though!!

    Hey guys,

I figured i give a little info on the drive down to N.C. from New England.

You got to leave early or late at night to beat the traffic and B.S.

I just drove to Florida (see my sortof excellent write up in the New England section) and i left at 9:30 pm and took me 8hrs to DC I beat the morning rush, but could not beat the traffic in VA.

So to beat the VA rush you got to leave at 6:00pm

    :)

We're waiting for something from Peter about Berry Hill, and some suggestions on good places in southern VA or northern NC. I'm no help here!

Surely there is an fchatter familiar with the area????

Well, yes, I feel like I am familiar with the area. As is Peter and others who posted.

The problem is that "northern" NC (which is not a real region) and southern VA along the I-95 corridor is a wasteland. Perhaps because this is an area in which I frequently dwell on Sunday motorcycle trips I have lost perspective on its redeeming qualities (other than good barbecue and many country roads).

Peter had an excellent suggestion in Pinehurst and the extra distance is really not that bad.

There are options in these areas, yes. But true "destinations" in this NC/VA border region are elusive.

Maybe not when you live in NC. The NC border is at least a 12 hour drive from MA. I think that's the limit for the folks coming from up here.

We're eager for spring time here so that we can take the cars out.

It was 65 on the way to work this morning, to cold for the wife to ride in the car with the top off.

OK, so I'm looking at a map. What about:

    1. VA Beach
    2. Durham, NC
    3. Winston-Salem, NC

These are all in the general vicinity of southern VA/northern NC.

How about early May for the gathering?

I do like the idea of an early gathering, if all works out, it would give us the opportunity to do a fall gathering too.

My choice would be, Winston-Salem or Durham, it's bit closer to me in Florida

And there is a Ferrari Dealership between Durham/Raleigh and Winston. Durham or Greensboro is going to be closer to the NE crowd.

Durham would be fine. We could check with the Washington Duke Inn in Durham or the Siena Hotel in Chapel Hill and see if we can use those as bases. The weather in May and June is terrific. There are terrific roads around here and it's right off I-85. From Durham, it's an easy 7 hour drive to Philly and 8 1/2 to JAX.

There is only a dealer in DC, a dealer in Greensboro (fifty miles from Durham) and a dealer in Atlanta to cover DC, VA, NC, SC and GA.

Remember, there are only 32 dealers nationwide now (used to be 42).

Birdman, those locations are prime for what I think everyone is wanting to do. Any word on the Berry Hill? I am actually getting excited! I have always wanted to see a parking lot FULL of Ferrari 308s. Lets get a decision already so we all can make plans! I am happy to help out with logisitics and organization. Just PM me here.

Ferrari of Washington (just down the road from Dulles airport) supports a lot of Ferrari racing. The times I have been in the back and shop was pretty interesting, lots of racecars undergoing race prep and/or restoration and lot of Ferraris of all ages being serviced. Probably get them to host something if we got enough cars.
Could be a great place for a future gathering (next time please) The Air and space museum is very close and so are a lot of very good resturaunts and hotels in the area.
