First, I love FChat, great site. But there are a couple of enhancements that other forums using the same software have that FChat doesn't:

    1. Spellcheck functionality (this is a must)
    2. The ability to embed images (image tags )
    3. Embedded icons with color
    4. The site is way too grey, a little Ferrari color would go a long way.

If you look at a site like M3Forum.net which uses the same forum software as FChat you get to see some of the possibilities. Does anyone have any other ideas to make the site even better?

In the bottom left hand corner of the page--you can change the style in which you view the board. Different colors, etc.

In response to the first 3.

Spellcheck is a waste of load on the servers, you can use spellcheck on the clients end, use Firefox. :)

Embedding images is disabled because I think Rob wants to make the site a Ferrari Archive, not just a here no, gone later place. Embedded images means external images which means outside control.

Embedded icons with colors, I'm not sure what that means, sorry.

The colors were answered by bludevil12.

    Stupid noob... :D

    1. People need to learn how to spell and check on their own...
    2. This would make subscriptions useless and also brings up copyright/bandwidth-theft issues.
    3. don't know what you mean about this exactly
    4. Like bludevil said, you can pick themes. I like the Red-Yellow theme. I think the amount of color with that theme is perfect.

    I like Fchat just fine.

    1. Get Firefox or any other recent browser
    2. Embedded images die. Rob wants Fchat to host the images so that when they go away, it's his fault ;)
    3. If you mean those HUGE images signatures, dancing bananas, and humping smilies, this place is better without them. Nobody wants to see a picture of your car in every post.
    4. Change your color scheme choice. Personally, I like the grey -- it's stealthy, and easy on the eyes.

Umm, sorry but the spellcheck funtionality I am refering to is client based but requires a button to be enabled on the server (so no cost to the server).

Images enhance the the entire forum experience.

I was refering to the primary forum colors which I do not think can be changed by the color themes below (only the headers change).

    Stupid poster.

I like that F-Chat is simple and doesn't have all that nonsense that other v-Bullitin sites have. It's good people and genuine information here without all the bells and whistles.

I don't think any of the OP suggestions are necessary, FChat is fine the way it is.

I disagree. Spellcheck (ieSpell) alone would enhance the experience and wouldn't create ANY overhead on the server. It's essentially an ActiveX plugin but does require some activation on ther server.

Firefox has this functionality built in without the need to install any extra software/plugins/change configuration.

Why is a spellcheck so important?? Use a dictionary if it's that big of a problem. You've only been here a month, no offense but I don't think you're in a position to be making suggestions on how to improve this place which has been here for years...

    Now, now.

Sometimes, we old timers get set in our ways and we need the fresh blood to offer up suggestions that we might not have thought of because we're comfortable with what we have.

Suggest away, I say! It can only potentially benefit the community!

Suggestions are reasonable, and we should reconsider these issues periodically so we don't forget "why" the way things are.

I do have a suggestion: Remove the ridiculous only-one-search-per-30-seconds rule. I understand that it's there for protection. Here are two compromises to consider:

    (1) Remove the forced delay for subscribed users only.

    (2) If your first search terms fail (e.g., typo), allow a search to be done immediately after without having to wait 30 seconds.

    (3) Allow three searches in short proximity, followed by a 1 minute delay or something. Three is what it takes to get some decent results (threads that I can read over the next few minutes).

Nothing like trying to find out what kind of rear gas struts/lift supports your car needs and having to tool around for 30 seconds because your first returned no results.

    - More sticky threads for things that are reposted 1,000,000,000,000,000 times.

For example, have 1 thread for all the advice for college kids that always ask. Have a thread for all the funny videos and pics like the wooden F50 boat, etc.... It would take forever, but I'm sure someone has enough time on their hands to go through all those threads and copy paste the best posts into those stickys.

Color Scheme I and many others use is red/yellow/white/shades of grey and blue.

It looks like the old Soviet Flag a-flyin' over Moscow in the Winter, Komrade Noobski. And we like it.

Speaking of Komrades, here is a recently discovered photo of Leonid Brezhnev measuring a summer's day with his understudy and bodyguard, who, pursuant to Fearless Leader's marching orders, killed, then replaced Al Gore without Publik detection, much to the satisfaction of his wife Tipper, who thought he was rather, shall we say, enhanced from that day forward. BTW, the Soviets invented the wooden F50 in 1963. Sneaky.

A dictionary yeah that's the same as spellcheck and 10 times as efficient!

Really, i'm sorry is there a standard length of time before making SUGGESTIONS? You suggestion that I refrain from making suggestions has been taken....and thrown away.

Oh, I have also put you in nomination for "most ridiculous post of the year so far" award.

You seem to be pretty insistent about that spellcheck. Go ahead and make the suggestion, as you have... several times in the same thread... it will most likely be "thrown away." Fchat is fine without the clutter. Everything is the way it is, for a reason, as several people have explained.

I do like Mike's idea about the search delay though.

Guys.. I'm pretty sure the 30-second search rule is there to protect server-load, not because Rob hates you. :)

There are some tweaks that could be made but overall the board seems to work pretty well.. with the volume going through here that's pretty impressive.

Actually, spoke to Rob he said that he had it before and removed it but is going to look back into as it might be worthwhile. Oh, and he DOES appreciate when people provide him with suggestions.

Did they just add some new artwork to the top banners? I have just been seeing some new ones, the rear of an F50GT, a black 612, and some painting of a black 348.

The P4/5 should be in that regular rotation BTW.
