I think youre right. 200 total 1988 cars Im told. 125 1987, 200 1986, 140 1985, something like that? Joe
I don't recall the manual cover car being 2 tone inside. That pic is in Coltrin's book, but I think without info in the caption, I'll check tonight. By the way, 88.5 was pretty low #. And they are hot too. I rec'd a call from a lady selling hers last Thursday. Called Sunday to go see it, but it was traded in the day before. I called the dealer this week, he sold it Saturday, the same day taken in. It's going to Florida. Looks like the white one Joe posted, but with US markers. 6500 miles. I just told my wife it was gone already and she said, "Why do you do this to yourself?"
Florida? Tony?? The speed of that car's sale speaks to the state of the market......the LP400 we had in California sold in days to the very first person it was presented to. Joe
i am with as happy as i am for countach bringing serious money today i am pretty sad as my chances to own a second one (and expecially an LP400 ) are becoming littler every day
What is the official pronunciation and definition of "Countach"? The word countach (help·info) (pronounced ˈkun.tɑʃ is an exclamation of astonishment in the local Piedmontese language - generally used by men on seeing an extremely beautiful woman [1]. While the term is considered untranslatable, it can be considered the verbal equivalent of a Wolf Whistle. Ciao Phil Not Hill aka Dr. Phil Having more fun than any human being ought to be allowed to have. Now, go take on the day.
When a dealer gets a car on trade and then it's gone...it was most likley wholesaled and going to a dealer in Florida. I'll let you know if I hear anything. Tony
SMS it may be at another dealer in Florida. But it may simply have sold quickly. That sort of thing happens these days with nice Countachs..... Joe
Actually ive never heard a true translation of the Piedmont dialect word Countach, but its something like **** me, or words to that affect!! (usually a little cleaner in the media versions of the story) The word uttered by Bertone (so the story goes) when he first layed eyes upoun Gandinis Creation.I think its a very apt word!
Thats a good question.... I've heard at least three stories about the first utterance... 1) It was a person on the street on one of its first test drives. 2) It was a delivery guy seeing it come out of the paint booth. 3) It was Bertone himself when he saw Gandini's drawings - up to that point it was "project LP 112" - officially intro'ed as the LP 500. I believe thats the "official" story. -mick
According to an interview Nuccio Bertone gave GM Europe boss Dick Ruzzin, he was sitting in his office with 3 other Bertone designers and he called Marcello Gandini to bring in his renderings of the LP112. Upon seeing the silhouette of the car he uttered: "Countach!" and it was the others in the room that christened the supercar-to-be with that exclaimed name. The 'old man' just went along with it. Ex GM Design Director (which makes sense as to why he was "hanging" with Bertone). Can we go for more Countach trivia? 1) What were the color(s) of the first four (prototype) Countach's? 2) Name some significant (visual) differences between the prototypes? 3) What is notably "missing" on the 1st prototype? -mick
OK..... On the Miura and Countach threads, we usually ask the posters of multiple question trivia tests to go ahead and enlighten us themselves....SO, fire away. We are all ears (or eyes in this case). Joe
Verde Amarillo Rosso Azure (I believe) Different tail light lenses I do not have a prototype in my garage Small NACA air intakes Door sill bolsters, had an indention ? Different gauges Single blade windshield washer No owner's manual - lol Different front fascia Different shifter design and leather cover ? Different air intake designs ... Thats no fun.... other part answers to 3) No Wipers (dual and single blades were then tested on subsequent prototypes). NO NACA ducts. As far as 1), lets make lp500 the 1st ie yellow/giallo lol -mick PS You can play along anytime.... ;-)
