Do you drive your Ferrari in the rain?

I'm more impressed with the guy that drove the Enzo in the rain! *S*

I'd venture to guess that on average 9.5 F owners out of 10 do not intentionally drive in the rain in the US. This would probably be more like 8 out of 10 in Europe.(maybe 7) I'm surprised there aren't more of the, "it's a car it won't melt" posters here.

If you ask the same question about driving and higher mileage you'll get more boasters, when in reality most F cars are low milers

 

Ours has never seen rain or snow.

During winter time, we garage all our cars and my parents buy second hand cars (then sell it afterwards) to use during snow time. I think they also like cancel the insurance for those cars we don't use during those times then re-activate it when spring starts.

 

Affirmative. It's just a car. I try to keep my car clean but don't obsess over it.

Exactly. I had mine out in the rain two nights ago. I had just installed new GE ultra-bright headlamp bulbs.

What better time to try them out?!

If I wanted a museum piece I'd buy something that I would want to hang on my walls. Like you, I wanted the Ferrari experience...from soup to nuts.

I dig driving it. I dig working on it. I dig parking it. I dig valeting it. My wife likes me to take her shopping in it, and my 5 year old daughter digs it when I pick her up from school in it.

What, I'm supposed to go through life primarily driving some grey Taurus or other such nonsense? "Oh no, it's raining, better take the crap car."

Not for me. 2 years as a daily driver. Thousands upon thousands of miles of smiles.

Not driving it would be like looking at a good bottle of Frangelica while drinking Schlitz...like dating the fat sister when her supermodel sibling wanted me instead.

No thanks. I can only drive one car at a time. Life's too short to waste my time on something unfun, unexciting.

 

Snow, I wondered about that. I don't suppose dealers let a potential buyer test drive a car with snow and salt on the roads, or do they? If not then sales must be pretty slow in the northeast this winter.

 

I bought it to drive. I've driven all of my Ferraris in the rain, except the new one, but I'v e only had it a week. Why own it if you're not going to drive it, rain or shine.?

Then I plead guilty..... to being 'completely anal about some of my cars'! But..... it's mainly because of the open engine compartment venting. The F430 and the Carerra GT both have those vents and any rain would surely enter the compartment, mix with road dirt and oil film and turn the compartment into looking like the aftermath of a 'bunker buster bomb'!

I would guess cleaning the engine bay would be as much fun as polishing all the chrome on my Harley Davidsons when I had them. That's why I sold my Lambos and the Ford GT and bought a few Mercedes. I was paranoid about taking them out in rain or pending bad weather. The Battery Tenders were spending more time in the cars than I was! Mags

 

Years ago, I purchased my BB in Italy and drove across Europe to the port. So, on my second day of driving, there was heavy rain approaching Antwerp. Fortunately, my hotel had underground parking. I hate leaving cars outside in the rain.

Once, upon running into an unexpected rain. I cut short a drive and managed to outrun the rain. Thats right, we turned 180, opened up with four three barrels and were quickly back in the dry.

I have, and I will again, but I prefer not to. For three reasons - one will be fixed tomorrow with a new set of Bridgestones to replace the ones that were down to the wear bars.

The second is that it does get absolutely filthy. And I mean filthy. I have a lot of Ag industry around me, and the roads can get pretty muddy. Even the good roads.

Third, and most important, I am not as much concerned about my on driving as I am about the ma-roons on the road that don't know enough to take it a little easier in inclement weather. I just KNOW one of them will lose it on a turn and head straight into me...

 

Of course, I have the same ma-roon concern in my daily driver, but a Miata is a lot cheaper to either fix or replace...

 

I guess I'll be the minority, and I'll prob take some s___ for this, but absolutely not. I have several other (modern) cars to drive, so there is no necessity to expose my Dino unnecessarily to the elements. H20 + vintage Ferrari = iron oxide (forget the chem formula for the latter).

 

Rain? No problem !

 

I don't drive my car in the rain. I like to keep my car clean, clean, clean.

Yes. I live abroad for business most of the time. When I am at home, I simply drive it.

P.S. I just avoid days when the salt is just being sprayed on the road.

 

Excellent point, re cleaning. Remember (if you knew it already) that rain is water that is quite pure, not like distilled/deionized, but quite pure for car washes. No spotting should be expected, also as it dries!!!!! Dont own a farrari yet, but when I will , I will try to rain wash it just occasionally to clean it well. (Does not do the "scrubbing " quality wash though).

Way back in the day we had a 1990 348ts for a little less than a year. I drove that car in the rain, and twice in the snow. It was hilarious to see people at the stop light staring at a snow covered bright red Ferrari

I have a picture somewhere of it stuck at the end of our driveway. I could not get it up the incline so I had to park it in the lawn until the driveway was cleared. Classic!!

 

Run mine every day and park it and take it anywhere... rain or shine. Of course that stems from the fact it is just a 348. Problem is the leaky roof seals but nothing that a towel cant help with. If it were a 250GTO I would leave it in a car coccoon!!!
