JC was smoking something no way the turbo is lighter than the 430 eventhough the 430 is not a light car..the turbo weight 3500lbs it's a pig...actually measured weights from 430 people here and 997gt3 people suggests similar weight for both cars and gt3 is much lighter than the turbo

to be fair turbo is one of the most boring p-cars unless power is all you care about..the 997gt3 is much better car NA 8400 rpm, rwd, lighter and the sound is the best i have heard from anything other than ferrari

i did the math and yes, it seems the 997 turbo does 40-60 mph in only 1 second.
the tiptronic does 0-62 mph in 3,7 secs, thats approx 16 mph per second of acceleration.

with the first 20 mph being the slowest to build up boost and get all that mass moving.

dont mind a p-car being called a pig for fairness it should be called a very fast pig though.....

kudos to ferrari for being what they are....porsche should not be underestimated though. they simply do it the german way......

It really is just the passion surrounding Ferrari. The Porsche is a very fine car but it' almost aniseptic. It does everything so very well. If I had to chose which car to drive every day the Porsche does it very well. If I wanted an every day driver, the Porsche is a better suited car. But, I didn't buy my Ferrari to drive every day. I bought it to giggle and laugh outloud while I am driving it. It makes my soul happy. I watch the weather and come home early just to drive it. I meet people and share the experience whenever possible. IT'S JUST DIFFERENT......

If I could only have 1 sports car I would buy the Turbo. Its nearly half the price, more practicle, people dont spit on it, etc. But if passion came down to it, the Ferrari no question. Its disappointing we didnt get to see the 911 be thrashed around the track like the F430. Maybe we will see another 911 GT3 RS vs F430 Challenge Stradale like this:

I'll have to see the road test to believe it...acceleration rate drops with speed, and since the 997TT is capable of a terrific launch, I don't believe it will be faster 40-60 than 0-20. From the Jan 2005 R&T test of the F430, where they clocked a 0-60 of 3.5 sec, it took 1.7 sec from 40-60. I'm not buying it yet.

    January 2005 R&T F430 road test:

    Time to speed Seconds
    0–30 mph.......1.3
    0–40 mph.......1.8
    0–50 mph.......2.8
    0–60 mph.......3.5
    0–70 mph.......4.3
    0–80 mph.......5.6
    0–90 mph.......6.7
    0–100 mph......8.1

Is it only I who belives that topgear will conduct another test of the turbo when the weather allows it. If they would have leat stig ride it through the topgear track it wold have preformed poorly, winter and all. So porsche maybe didn`t let them. The stig laps are around the same week as the show airs, but the segment is always filmed 4 month earlyer.

Although, they really are apples to orages when you figure price and availability. You can just go buy a 911T for low hundreds. You can't touch a 430 for under 200k.

:D Well soon (hopefully) when M.H. delivers we will be able to do our own test of your 997 Turbo vs. my F430. You just make sure your airport road stays in tact ;)

What? Clarkson, I thought loves Ferrari and the 430. How can he admit that the Porsche Turbo has a small edge in performance and and may be slightly faster than the 430 when the 430 has more HP and according to guys on here the 430 weighs less than the Turbo?

    Guys can he be right?

for acceleration times torque not Hp is what matters and the TT has much more of that..nothing new 996tt with bigger boost can do even better

The Porsche is an everyday car. The Ferrari is a weekend toy. (although if I had the F430, I would use it as a daily driver) Porsches are a dime a dozen. Everytime I go downtown Vancouver...I get excited to see a Ferrari....but when I see a Porsche I have no reaction at all. The only Porsche 2 Porsches that have ever excited me are the Carrera GT and the 959. I really dont care about the numbers on which is faster. I would still take a Ferrari any day over a Porsche.

Nothing wrong with admitting the truth.
And according to the books (and I am sure you are the most knowledgeable in this field) the F430 IS lighter than the 997 Turbo. (Road & Track, vol. 58, no.1, page 70 ;)).
