Sooo, as i thought, the original question about straight line speed has not been answered other than.....The 348 is faster than the 328. The 355 is faster than the 348. the 360 is faster than the 355, and the 430 is faster than a 360. Oh in a straight line:D:D The f430, 360 and the 355 i drive most days of my working life and i can only answer the question as i did above;) And yes each feels more powerful as the last model.
And yes the 355 feels noticeably more powerful as the 348, as the 348 feels noticeably more so than the 328.

Also depends on the drivers skills. I've managed to keep up with a couple of 355's on a track..... it's only on the straights that the 355 pulls away.

There is actually a part street, part closed course race circuit there. The straight is part of the 1930's/40's party rally grounds.

    Very nice town to visit.

Ian, if your gonna buy a Ferrari this site is invaluable for info, so try not to annoy the old boys! Nice fiesty attitude though, you'll fit in fine here.
Just get the 348 and see how it goes. You obviously have the funds available for both so get the 348 now, at winter prices, as long as it's got good history and recent belt sevice if you get a good one you could run it for a year then chop it in for the 355 next year and the 348 shouldn't have cost you anything and the 355's may have come down a bit more in price.
If you love it, keep it and spend the extra dosh on some upgrades.
By the way, I see your from Northampton and if 1975 is your D.O.B. Try Jardine Faber Roadsure for your insurance as I was the same age as you when I got my 348 and they did me a blinding insurance deal, £625 per year, 6,000 miles per annum (plenty) on a classic policy. They are in Northampton.
Some companies quoted me £4,000 !!
    Steve.

First driving ompressions are that you will notice that u will feel more comfortable going faster in a 355. It's just more refined. The 348 makes u feel like you're going really fast due to less refinement. It's not as fast or quick as a 355, but u just get a more sports car on the track feel every time u drive it. The 348 is the last Ferrari u can really mess around with in terms of hotrodding it. 355's got considerably more complex. My M3 was a 5 second 0-60 car easy. It was slightly faster than the 348, but they drove pretty much the same in terms of balance, handling, etc. Well, the 348 felt much better at speed, however ( lower, wider).

No one is going to use a 348 or 355 for drag racing so u should be less concerned about 0-60 as maybe 60-100 :D In that the 2 cars are similar. Once u get into triple digits, the 355 will edge the 348 and will, at times, keep up with 360's on a club run, while we 348s hang back and enjoy the drive. :p

I've been waiting ages for someone to confuse Nuremberg with Nurburgring to use that bit of trivia! I need to learn a new fact now to fill the void...:)

Agree, we shouldn't bash 348s here, but I think I have a right to shed a bit more light on this as a) I have previously owned a 348 and b) now own a 355.

I too, have not yet won Euromillions and therefore have to restrain my desire to own "the end game" and settle on cars within my means. I have owned both a 348 ts and a Mondial 3.4T. Guess which one I liked more? The Mondial T! I found it better to drive, more practical and better value for money (the engine is the same as the 348, but 4 seats and less expensive).

The 348 was very expensive to maintain and disappointed frequently on the road in that it did not deliver the kind of performance and handling one would expect. I found that the emotion of "wow I am driving a Ferrari" was just about the only upside of ownership. I was passed by simply too many suped up Fiat Puntos.

At least in the Mondial, I could share that pleasure with a couple of friends in the back : )

On to the 355. I do like the looks better of the 355 as the round tail lights and toned down sides are less testarossa and more Maranello IMHO. The sound is better, the reliability is better, the handling is better and the quality is much better. Worth the 10k uptick: YES. This is just the price of admission. If given a choice of buying a 23k 348 or a nicely sorted 23k 993 C2 Porsche, the choice is clear, the Porsche. If it had to be a Ferrari, then put 5k back in your pocket and buy the Mondial (keep the change for future servicing).

OK, that is my thought for the day

Dude we have been 348,355 and 360 bashing for years. read it in the spirit that it is written in;) We are all friends and we have a laugh. Give it a short spell and all you new rookies will join in the banter with out taking it seriously.

    Yep, I owned a 993 before my 348...
the choice is clear, Porsche in every sense of the word.
hate to admit it, but true.

    I'm thinking 355 or 12 cylinders now.

Compared to my 993TT the 355 feels like an un assisted "drivers car" ;)

Heresy! Repent now, before it is too late!!!

My brother, I too succumbed to the Porsche siren call. But I gathered the strength to resist the hordes of blind German car followers, those souless heathens! I have returned to the faithful, the true sportscar afficiandos, the Ferraristi!

Yes, once in a while that blue biyotch calls to me to take her out of the garage for some partying, but I feel so cheap afterwards compared to the Ferrari.

Nope, I'm selling the temptress and am truly one of the blessed faithful. "D

    Before I got a 348 I had a 993 for a long weekend, and drove a 996 Carrera 4 quite a bit.

I ended up getting a 348 because it looked better, sounded better, felt better.
