Has anyone taken theirs through an automatic car wash?
I try to drive mine as often as I can, which in winter time here means driving in the rain. The wipers work, just be gentle with that right foot.... Hans
Agreed. I've been hit 3 times by idiots in the rain during the past 25 yrs (broadsided twice). I've never driven my RX-7 nor my SLK55 in the rain - just scared of large 5,000 lbs SUVs - they could run me over like a speed bump. Same here, while I havn't started out for a drive in the rain, I have gotten caught in those passing showers two or three times, one time I remember was a big thunderstorm with driving rain for about 30 minutes. Happy to report no leaks from the targa top (new front and rear gaskets are great)
They don't melt. Did this a couple of weeks ago on my way to breakfast. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Drive them in the rain all the time. Why deprive yourself the pleasure of driving your Ferrari just because of some condensation?
It all depends just like all of you say. If it's raining, I won't go in a car that is not so fun in. I drive my gt-r for rain. 4WD and it surely does the job in rain (or dry) weather. but I have been caught in dumping rain with my 340R... that was terrible. I almost spun the car, and it surely made me and my passenger wet. it sucks to have no roof. =( but for my Maranello, I don't think I really care. It actually drives really nice in rain due to the weight. I don't feel scared to drive in that car in rain at all. It's almost fun when you can drift some. =)
Wow. I can't imagine if I were to be caught in the rain with a 340R. Not only it doesn't have a roof, it doesn't have a lot of things. Welcome to FerrariChat, ajimbo!
Nahh...Out here in sunny So Cal, it rarely rains anyway, and when it does, the forecasters talk about the impending drenching for days beforehand, so that's when I get to take out a more modern car, with ABS, DSC, traction control, yadda, yadda, yadda. It'll be sunny again in a day or so, and I won't have to wash the car again!
I'll never forget the time I drove my GTO on Goodyear 'Blue Streak' dry compound/tread racing tires on the 405 in pouring rain. It was more like ice skating than driving!
Ahh, then you will like this shot I took ~ 2 yrs ago at the Historics @ Laguna Seca. Kick azz license plate. -Matt Image Unavailable, Please Login
It's stupid that it's even a question, you shouldn't have the car if you won't bring it out in the rain. Driving in the rain, actually putting on miles, aftermarket is the devil, worrying about resale, what else???
At Cars for the Cure ... if you look closely you can see where it's wet... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wrong. Having your T-boned by idiots that are not adept at driving in rain conditions & totalling your car (or wrose, almost killing you...on several occasions in fact) causes you to "think twice" about driving a small sports car on wet urban streets dominated by 6,000 lbs SUVs. -Matt
In Holland......, you never know when its going to rain... They are meant to be driven, in any weather..... just be carefull. I rather drive my car then polish it!(even if it was an Fcar).
Here in the NE US there can be three different kinds of salt, sand, and even gravel laid down on the roads during the winter as anti-Darwinian public works programs: Any idea what those can do to pre-corrosion treated low-slung European sports cars? My good friend had to move his '79 GTS out of the path of rain and snow melt flooding this morning, I can tell you the 2-3 mile drive was carefully considered.
