A lot on the road? In the US, steep depreciation and reliability are key factors in an AM purchase. Similar concerns in SG? Understand price for a new AMV8 is S$510? It's a good looking car for sure (although I wish the rims were different).
I've seen no more than 3 so far but I get to the office early & leave for home late so don't see much actions on the road. They're all manual & when the paddeshifts & roadsters are here, I'm quite sure there'll be more but I heard there has been a waiting list here! Seems that there's not enough cars to fulfill orders. The Aston has always been a rare bird around town so depreciation will be higher than usual but the new AMV8 might change a little just like the baby lambos Tiong should know better since he just acquired a DB9.
the dealership here serves malaysia, indonesia and, to a lessser extent, thailand and brunei as well (they perform a "flying doctor" service). my understanding is that they have put 60 cars on the road in the region so 34 in Singapore sounds about right (and i believe that's the entire fleet). used to be you felt you were taking a chance buying an aston because of the perceived lack of aftersales service. that has changed tremendously as, like the lambo dealership, they have adopted a very professional approach and have benefitted from putting more cars on the road. gorgeous as the amv8 may be, i think that the current looker in the family is the db9 (i may be biased). the amv8 is a bit squat for my liking while the length of the db9 allows the lines and form to be fully expressed. the vanquish looks a bit too pumped up in comparison. you need to place the three side by side to understand what i'm trying to say. have to confess that the rarity of the car here adds to my enjoyment and you do get people giving you appreciative glances and nods of approval when you drive by as opposed to the "lucky w*nker" stares i got when driving my fcar previously.
Thank's for the detailed input Des. Glad to hear that sales / service levels are very high - an important factor given AM's history. Agree the DB9 is gorgeous. Great choice on your car's color. Assume there have been no issues, hopefully supporting the theory that build quality has vastly improved? Any idea how many AMV8's are on the road? Based on the stats you mentioned, I'm guessing 10 - 12? Best.
no complaints so far re build quality, touch wood. the vast majority of the cars here are amv8's so i'd put the number around 20 to 25. that number should increase as the new cars come in (april i believe) and the current owners unload to upgrade.
Des, any idea what does a decent pre-owned AMV8 goes for (or will go for come April, once 6-speeders unload for paddle versions). It seems base price for one new is in the low-5's so wondering if pre-owned ones are in the mid/high-3's.
Couple of updates having spoken to the SG dealer: - 10 AMV8's on the road in Singapore to date - First one sold March / April 2006 - All sold are manual (thank God!) as paddle version only coming out now - Base price S$508. Moderately optioned runs $520's - $530's+. - Surprisingly, only 1 current owner noted as swapping out of manual for paddle or roadster, so as of yet, limited chance of getting a pre-owned version Best.
