Hey guys, I had a question. I have been loving Ferrari's all my life, and I have always wanted to own one. I am about to graduate from college and start working for a financial firm. I was wondering what you guys think the average salary should be to own a 360? I want to get one as soon as I have the money to spend on one. What are your guys' thoughts on this? Thanks!

well from what I learned just from lurking around here, be prepared to spend double to three times the price of the car just for maintenance or issues that may come up over the years, well assuming that you'll keep it for a long time maybe 5 or so years?

anyways I'm not talking from experience so forgive me if I'm way off

You can afford a 360 on less than the median income. Here's how you do it:

    Monthly expense

    $2000 = lease cost
    $300 = insurance cost
    $500 = maintenance reserve
$75 = 1 tank of gas (10 miles per day)
$30 = 3 packs of ramen per day
$0 = cardboard box for shelter
$0 = 6'x3' plot in public park for the cardboard box
$0 = free restroom in public park for personal hygiene

$2905 per month or $34,860 per year.

If you have to ask, you probably can't afford one.

360 seats are comfy, no need for a cardboard box.

if you look at price tags on things you buy then you cant afford one.

When doing it cheap, resale value is often a factor. You'd want to keep those seats clean, uncreased and odor-free ;).

This may be your first problem. People who think "salary" aren't going to make it.

Owners of their own business, attorneys, sales people, doctors, etc. get Ferraris. Executives ith options get Ferraris. People on salary are security oriented. they'd rather be secure than make money.

    Any questions?

Salary is often not required: it is income from other sources. Such as put your salary into investments and use the income from the investments to pay for such toys. And, like the others said, have a search around, 'cause this question has been asked many, many, many times! Hope you get your dream car soon. Regards, Pete

Nonsense. If you DONT look a price tags on things, you'll soon be very broke. Maybe in days of old this rang true for Ferrari's, but not today.

I believe most or average Ferrari owners bought their Ferrari cash... In my country, I can very well say less than 5% bought their Ferrari by making payment out of a portion of their salary. Quite dangerous to live on the edge.

I think thats a cultural thing. In an environment like the UK and America, where people are becoming used to having everything they want, right now...finance is a popular choice. There was a thread on this somewhere which was interesting reading, with several guys arguing that it was better to invest their cash in investments which gave a good return and finance the Ferrari/Lamborghini etc. I think with the advent of very cheap and readily available finance, this is a viable option (with the caveat that you have a decent investment to put the money into).

I'm thinking of asking for the name of the financial institution you are going to work for so I don't make the mistake of taking their advice!

When you can afford it as a second car (third car, if you are married).
... with its own garage space.
... with about $6k per year for maintenance.

This is about the time to buy a 360 if financial considerations are involved. Most of the major depreciation has happened. Watch the history of prices for the 328, 348, and 355 cars to see what will likely happen to the 360 and eventually the 430. My guess is that the 360 should stabilize somewhere around $95k - $110k as they age.

Exactly what I was thinking. This is the antithesis of what my financial advisor should be driving and espousing.

Serious answer. For somone just starting out, living in a "desirable" area or 1st/2nd tier city (how this effects property costs is my point), doesn't own a home yet, and has essentially no investments,... north of $300K/year. Good luck.

$300K per year is about right for someone who is going to have lots of other regular debt. If you have no other debt I would think a $80k could support an earlier model 360 (1999-2001 maybe) if you forgo some of the other comforts.

You need to come work for me. The first year is tough, but everyone who has made it to the third year has a 360. If you want to shoot for a 430, you will need to do my pedicures.
