    Bet you have a big smile on now. The reflections of the flourescents are a dead give-a-way. The effort on the primer was well worth it. Wait till you see it in the sun. Gonna be spectacular.

    Going to be up your way Fri and Sat. for the Tour de California bicycle race. I'm going to ride from Solvang up the San Marcos pass and then down into Santa Barbara Friday then from Santa Barbara to Santa Clarita on Saturday. Blue is a great color on a Dino. I guess you can call us the "Blues Brothers"

    Good lord that paint looks beautiful! Are those pictures even before sanding and polishing? I'm speechless. It may not be the most original, but I'm sure Enzo is smiling tonight.

    No sanding or polishing yet. It was a standard color offered on the Dino's. Dino Blue Metallic. My roomate in college had a 73 Gt this same color.

    Simply amazing! I've always been fascinated by the perfect execution of body work and paint - these guys are artists.

    BTW, what type of paint are you using? Is it a 2-part paint (i.e., harder)? I ask because I thought that these types of paint can't be wet-sanded and polished like the old lacquers, for example.

    There are single stage metallics, but it isn't really the way to go. Paint technology is continually changing. What was state of the art 10 years ago has already changed due to changes in material science and mostly regulatory in regards to paint emissions (VOCs).

    The two stage metallics like Jon's Dino uses a color base coat that is NOT sanded and a clear coat that IS sanded after curing. The only time the color coat is sanded is to fix a boo boo that is again color coated. These modern paints don't cure like the old lacquers via evaporation of thinner. They are chemically related to plastics and cure via cross linking. Sort of like mixing multi part glues or epoxies.

    ok, so I know your Dino wont be quite ready to be up here by the weekend but John's is ready to go and mine has developed a gearbox oil leak, so I just need some time under it before I drive it (either fill it up or better yet, find and fix the leak), I can take Friday morning off and fix it.

    When I first saw the pics of your black Dino, I thought it was the nicest one I'd ever seen. I'm beginning to think that this blue one will top it!! Absolutely stunning!!

    Thanks for the link. I realize that the color coat is not (normally) sanded, I was wondering if all the urethane or polyurethane clears (there are 6 suitable types listed in your link) can be sanded.

    It's been a while since I've checked in on this thread, but I must say my jaw dropped when I saw the body of the car with the paint on it. I can't wait for a chance to see this car finished and in the flesh. Congratulations on getting to this point, I'm sure you're anxious to put it all back together.

    Jon- if you get a chance I would really like a close up shot of the directional signal holes in the front of the car. I am re-installing my euro indicators & I found out that the mounting tabs were not correctly alligned in order to be a backstop for the indicator lights. My car had been hit in the front & they just had those backstop mounting tabs peeled back so the indicator was loosely installed and at the wrong angle. If you get a minute I would sure appreciate it. Thanks

    More progress. They sanded the clear coat and polished it. Masked the car off and painted three coats of satin black with satin clear coat and painted all the fiberglass. Next is the frame. I thought the order of things would be different, but they said that's how they always do it. They want it out by next week. On top of that I decided I needed more room with the Dino coming back, so I'm doing a little refurbishing of my shop. I hate clutter and things on the floor. I assembled more shelves and am putting together a new single post lift. Also covering all the shelves so you don't see the junk, epoxy floors after that with a 6' Ferrari logo on the floor. Trying to get all this done before the car comes back and before I leave on a cruise a week from Saturday. Not enough hours in the day.

    Looks like a Bend-Pac single post parking lift. I have one in my garage. It does look like a custom paint job, mine came in blue!

    What a spectacular restoration!! Jon, sorry for my ignorance, I've read this thread over and over, and can't tell whats been rebuilt/replated/repainted vs replaced. I'm planning on having my boxer done, and I was just curious how much can be salvaged? thanks again for taking the time on this thread and Congrats on the car. Mark

    Bend-pac single post, custom paint, decal delete. Kind of a ***** to install. Nothing is lite on that model.

    I had mine installed by the guys who do it for our business. It took 2 guys nearly a day to complete the installation. I like your custom paint job. Is the entire platform yellow?

    Just a tip, I had the column installed with a slight negative bubble, leaning back (as discussed with an engineer at Bend-Pac). The platform will deflect about 1.5” under load. That way when the platform is loaded it is nearly level.
