I'm still unsure about exacly how I want to tackle this...I'm very partial to the GTB's. Also, it has to be red so I would end up resraying it anyways. I know it'll be more work but I'm leaning towards swapping everything over to my chassis. Either way, you guy's have convinced me to do it the right way and drop a Ferrari drivetrain back in it. I'll have to look into the carb swap, that would be cool!!

settled with the insurance company. sold the Ferrari as Salvage to someone who is going to transfer everything onto an existing fram with a good title. All in all, I got the money I needed, the car goes to an enthusiast and the net loss of ferrari's on the road is zero. I am still in negotiations over medical, loss of use, and lost wages.

Sorry for the accident. I can suggest that you try looking for a good repair shop for that.

settled yesterday. Got my check from Nationwide and I am waiting on the title to get back changed to salvage. Now I am starting my search for a black 348 well sorted. No hurry though, I will wait for the right one to come along.

    Dear Ferraristi,

First, sorry for your loss...I'm glad your' OK. I've been in a 14 car pile-up myself...not so lucky as you.

But....why the " Illegal Alien " comment? Did that make the crash worse? What if you substitued that for a certain race or creed? Would that make the crash worse?

We have a big lack of "bodily injury" coverage in Florida...no not illegal Aliens but florida law not requiring coverage. Here, you have to have "UM" uninsured motorist coverage big-time.

First off I need to preface this by I am consider myself a liberal and if not a democrat but a libertarian. If I get caught speeding in the Ferrari I expect a ticket and or punishment. Ilegal aliens wherever they are from are illegal and should not be in this country! Period! No other country would tolerate the problem we have here. In Mexico it is a 2 year prison term for first offense and 6 year term for second.

I know this is off topic but this problem is not going away. If you are rich enough you can isolate yourself from the problem, I guess until it runs into you.....

    Dear Ferraristi,

But....Does the crash by an illegal Alien make the crash worse...or is a bad accident just that....a bad accident. When I was involved in a large accident in 2000, I don't remember asking what people's legal status, orientation, color or creed was by how bad the accident should or could have been. I guess we've become alot meaner since. :(

I think the point is that he should not have been driving in the first place, he was driving illegally and he should not have been on the road. Then again, there's alot of other people that shouldn't be on the road as well!

Back on topic....mwhite, glad to hear you settled, send me an email or call me and we can work out the logistics.

Yes, in fact it DOES make the accident worse, they usually jump out, abandon the vehicle and run as fast as they can heading South.....

A real problem with murderers and rapists as well, car wrecks are just a hiccup....

I think a deal is in the works, they get 'Dog the Bounty Hunter' and we send all 12 million, along with him.......;)

Glad I could help you with keeping a 1977 rollin'........they are rare you know..;)

Did I mention the work crews stop for two Bud Tall Boys for BREAKFAST?????? :D :D :D

My local mechanic had an identical 'run-in' with illegal Mexicans in Charleston - they pulled in front of his Testarossa, and he T-boned them (low-speed impact). No English, no insurance, no accountability - this was before 9/11, so the errant drivers 'disappeared'. His insurance had to cover the damages to his own vehicle. He repaired his own TR (in his own shop) using a scrounged 512TR front-end, BTW.

I wouldn't recommend letting the illegal alien driver 'off-the-hook' simply because the truck owner's insurance company wrote you a check. The driver who hit you hasn't learned anything, other than he can skirt the law and not be held accountable for his poor driving on US roads. You have a civic obligation to report the legal status of the other driver to the proper authorities.

I'm disapointed that "Illegal Alien" hysteria had made its way here.

    Ok, back on topic. :(

Just curious, why would you be disappointed? It was been covered in the thread the crash was the fault of an illegal who shouldn't have been driving. The OP likely posted the comment that he was an illegal alien because he was worried about the insurance liability. If illegals were licensed to drive and carried insurance it wouldn't be an issue, would it?

Frankly I am disappointed in your lackadasical attitude on the whole illegal alien topic.

    How's traffic in Lakeland, brudda?

It's a real issue closer to the Border.....

I10 here of course is a major traffic corridor.....so maybe worse than National Average.....

But the end 'real world' result is still the same....people truned loose on the streets without proper coverage in the result of a crash......and no real name or address either!

Good luck! In this case we have a happy ending as I think this is a real cool project and hopefully the guy on the West Coast will continue it with pics as he 'merges' the two cars........

I was pretty amused the last time I renewed my Texas License in Houston, the number of nationalities was incredible!

Old far eastern Asia folks, with nephews translating...

    Pakistani/Indian......same situation....

A flood of South Americans.......no English.

How are they gonna read ROAD SIGNS???????

They were stamping them all thru, if they passed the Eye Test.......which as I get older is harder than it used to be! LOL!

    Dear Ferraristi,

In Florida we have a problem with uninsured motorists in general. Property and bodily injury is an option and NOT required by Florida law. In order to protect oneself, you better have "UM" ( uninsured motorist coverage )

How's the driving in Lakeland ? Like I have said, I was in a 14 car pile up and NO ONE had bodily injury coverage.... NOT because everyone was an illegal alien but because of stupid Florida law. Thank goodness I have high limits coverage and UM. If you have UM, it doesn't matter if it was an illegal alien or the clan's grand-dragon son. if you don't have UM, you're up the creek.

I now hope you see where I'm coming from in regards to the FL state laws regarding UM.

    Dear Ferraristi,

Ok, I know, I just couldn't leave well enough alone. My attitude on the subject is that I DON'T have an attitude. I'm not going to get my pitch-fork and jump on the "Lou Dobbs" bandwagen. If y'all want to so be it...not me.

I love Ferraris and was disapointed when I could see this thread going in an "off" direction.
....yeah, I know, I kept raising the question. Just a little too much bashing not to question it. :)

Sorry for the hijack, and sorry for the "bashing", but this EXACTLY happened to me. Hit my GF head on (non-fcar, but totalled with her in the hospital), bystanders saw all 4 run off (abandon thier vehicle) and were later confirmed as illegals, but not caught. Police kept thier car, that was good, but no insurance.

Luckily, this was before we were a no-fault state, so our insurance covered her medical since she had no medical insurance.

Sorry, but I have little patience for those who do not follow the correct process to get into this country when I have an employee who IS trying to become a citizen.
