As others have stated, rent a limo. You can't imagine all the headaches you will prevent. My son wanted to borrow the 308 for his prom about 10 years ago; and I politely told him no. This was a kid who actually refused to drink (even at home with me) until he turned 21, and had straight A's !!! Turned out his date for prom later decided she liked girls better anyway...so who you looking to impress REALLY???

My sister's bf got to bring a black 350Z to her prom a couple weeks ago. As it turned out, that got all the heads turning since everybody at the prom had SUVs and limos. The engine roar of the 350Z was Borla with some engine components by Stillen. Everything else is all stock including exterior.

My sisters bf got it from his boss! As it turned out, The 350z was actually owned by the boss's sister!...talk about a great connection and trust.

Don't get the Ferrari...Something more simple will turn heads as much.

A friend of mine has a Z, and it's nothing special, but my school parking lot was filled with brand-new MBs and BMWs so limos were the only way to go. We had a huge H2 limo and it was very pricey.

I have written and deleted stuff I wanted to say here at least four times now. I just cant explain it well without showing anger, and I appologise, but handing some kid the keys to a Ferrari, or any other exotic car is insane. I dont care what the rental fee is, it would be borderline criminal, or at least child endangerment to hand some kid the keys to something like that they didnt earn the right to drive, and especially on prom night. In addition, what is with so many people today, of all ages, who feel the need to show off to everyone? Why do so many of you need everyone to look at you? "Look at me, look what I got, can you see me?". "Hey!!, look at me over here, Im driving a "Ferrari", aint I kewl?". How fricken vain are you? Do you spend hours talking to yourself in the mirror making your hair perfect like John Edwards?? Do you really need to be king crap to everyone at the prom? I swear to God, you are the kind of people who would make Mr. Ferrari have his people throw you out the door of his shop. If thats all one of his cars means to you, go get a life. Stop trying to flash diamonds under everyones nose, we arent impressed.

    Ahem.......that's right Paul!

I think what we are trying to say (as father to three ....15 -24 years old) is this:

There is an awful lot of things going on at this time of your life, to reach successful adulthood.....and the statistics are not good at all...research Autoweek coverage on driver training...here in Houston the DAILY fatalities of your age group are heart rending.

So you need to enjoy the celebration of your Senior year (or junior year..heck Amanda ordered her slinky dress this week to celebrate the NINTH GRADE!) and you can learn..

    how to dance
how to talk to the opposite sex
how to kiss and hug and whatever
how to stay up all night
how not to drink too much ....or what happens if you do.

Hopefully there isn't much driving to be done at all..

..and be careful around hut tubs and swimming pools!!!!

    *whistle tweeeeeeet...."No RUNNING!"

I guess the Cliff Notes version of this, is the victory is living large but still LIVING to see the next sunrise.....that stuff you see on TV is just that...fiction,.....a fabrication.....maybe some folks really do live that way but truthfully, like a lot of things the harder you have to chase it, the less fun it is, to actually catch and hold.......

See you after the dance...come back, hang around get to know us all....we'll let you borrow one then..........

    Love,
    Dad

I let my stepson drive the Corvette (the silver LT4, not the ZR1) to his sr. prom. He does not smoke or drink, came home on time, and did not damage it.

We went driving for 30 minutes every Sunday morning for that whole winter so he could learn how to shift gears.

I later heard from an old friend that my former next door neighbor from Oklahoma years ago had lost his only son in a prom night car wreck. The story was that he talked a local Corvette collector into loaning him a 1972 Stingray with the 3-carb 427 and a four speed. The kid was just pulling out of the parking lot in a normal manner when two cars (racing) came out of nowhere and one got him in the drivers door. There was some speculation that he was having trouble with the clutch and gears which may have stalled him right in their path.

I guess it is obvious that it could have happened in a Chevette just as well, but it made me rethink whether I should have left my kid have the Vette after all...

Paul, you put things so very well. Aside from the obvious danger in letting anyone inexperienced drive a powerful machine, you hit on the absurd preoccupation with self that pervades everything in society. Sadly, the young learn it very early. But I am old and you are wise. In addition, I wonder how many of our brethren even remember their proms or their date.

Im not really trying to impress anyone. It was just a thought because we own the car and I am responisble enough not to do anything stupid with it.

See i would go with a group but most my friends drink and I hate being the only sober person around. Almost every Girl that has seen the Vette absolutely falls in love with the car. If that doesn't do it for them What will is out of my price range and I would prefer not to be like every other person in the school and get a hummer limo with 26" wheels :/

I understand why you want to make an impression at your HS prom. I did it in college proud of dating guys w/ Porsche 911s to formal department dinners. Don’t set your hopes that high for HS & rent a Mustang convertible. I once rented one & raced it SCCA autoX. You'll have a great time w/ top down & love the wind in your hair. The girl will be loving that feel of the convertible thing too. Sweet car & available to rent.

I can GUARANTEE that after spending 2 hours getting her hair done for prom, the girl will NOT be loving the convertible thing. I love convertibles, and almost always have the top down, but not for special occasions.

I would have to agree with the people who told you to rent a limo. Neither you or your date are going to have any fun if you are parinoid about the car all night. Cops will be everwhere on a prom night. They would LOVE to give a ticket to a teenager in a Ferrari, or any other sportscar.

Alot of you guys sound like my dad way back when- his lack of trust in my judgment one one of the reasons I let my kid take the Lotus to his prom and now let both my boys drive the Ferrari. Hey- I even let my kid drive the Dodge M37 to homecoming. Now that was funny.
    Cheers,

Not a bad idea- show up so late they won't let you in, and just head upstairs to the hotel.

I let my daughter take the Daytona Spyder to the prom. She loved it and it is probably something she will remember forever. She told me later it was like a dream.

Well, a daughter would be a totally different question, no doubt.......maturity and self control are much further ahead of the males at the age.......

Although recently here, they have been pacing their peers for traffic mistakes and fatalities.......IMO becuase they are likely to be in smaller newer cars as well.....

Now a Daytona, THAT's some protection!!!!!

My 308GTBs have taken some hard impacts as well, something abut a tube frame just holds up!

Thanks for posting a positive happy story!

I took my dads Ferrari to Prom many years ago. Of course, I had grown up driving his exotics since the day I had a license so i've always driven the cars with care, respected their performance and ability and didn't do anything to get myself into trouble. If I could take a Ferrari to prom again, would I? Probably not. Instead of gawking like you'd expect, all I got was "spoiled rich kid" stares. I didn't care, I didn't take it to show off or brag, but for the experience and my own personal enjoyment. In the end, I couldn't be happier my dad trusted me enough to let me enjoy his cars. It made my youth a really wonderful experience as i've been a car guy since day one. In return, I respected him that much more and his cars.
