I just received my DMV renewal for my 1988 328 GTS and it asks for a Smog certificate from a Test Only station .. imagine ... me along with those gross polluters. (Like traffic school alongside all those bad drivers.) My car has always past with flying colors so is this just a case of the State piling on older F-cars? I'm in Los Gatos so has anyone had a similar experience and what Test Only station have you successfully used? Hey ... I'd hate to be the guy whose car emissions via the Butterfly Effect killed the polar bears or caused SF to be underwater .. so I'm not looking to cheat the system. Just looking for a Ferrari-friendly face.

Just went through this with my 99 360. I had it pre tested at a friends chevron station, we both knew it would fail some sensor test, it failed. He gave me a phone number to call and I got a test appoinment at a refferee station. Passed no problem and only $38:50. Dan

Had to do the same thing for my 89 last August. Was pissed. Finally just drove to the Valero test only at the corner of Hwy 9 and Prospect. Figured if it failed I'd let the state pay for part of it. The technician didn't even know what kind of car it was. But it's pretty straight forward in what he has to do. Car passed with flying colors. 15/25 HC 21/18: CO .1/.13; NO 116/131 all measurements way below the max . Price about $70

If you want to take it to a guy who knows Ferraris, go to Accurate Smog Check Center on Curtner Ave in Campbell. While you are waiting, check out the exotics in the showroom at Autosource Motoring across the street.

I have my various Ferraris smog tested at the same station. The guy knows the cars.

they are probably doing this to prevent people getting smog certificates from their buddy's garage. Its their way of making people legitimize their smog results

Robbie: Unfortunately, you have a vehicle deemed by the state bureaucrats as "a potential gross polluter" due to its age. Never mind the fact that it has passed all previous smog checks with flying colors. The State knows that it has passed and has the records, but due to age, your vehicle will be required to submit to the smog test only and the dyno testing every 2 year from now until it leaves the state. What a crock. My 1990 SHO is in the same boat, Smog Test Only from here on out.

Thanks for the input. I like the pre-test test. I understand that if you go to a Test Only station and fail then they tattoo Gross Polluter on your forehead and you are condemned to grab-your-ankles for eternity.

    It's not age.

ALL Ferrari's go to Test Only stations no matter the age.
