Congrats on your purchase, its one of my all time favourite cars. I remember one being for sale here in the mid 1980's for 10k, although I was only a teenager then, I will never forget dreaming of ways to try and find the money!!
Will be very very interested in hearing of your driving impressions and ownership experience. I can see myself owning one someday.

Thanks Steve - OK - So yesterday was a pretty nice day and I thought I had an hour or two to spare so I started up 'Vesper the Vantage'...Noe she's 22 in August but shows absolutely no signs of age whatsoever, She's been very well cared for by a number of well heeled financier types and thankfully they've spent their money exactly in the right places at the right time, She's got a Harvey Bailey handling kit with adjustable Koni's, A supersports exhaust to help her breathe, an Aston Works lead free conversion, The paint is totally original as is the interior, no reconnolising in there, all the wood is perfect as are the carpets etc...When you sit in a Vantage you immediately feel at home, immensely comfortable, gone are the hip hugging Recaro-esque sporty items that the 550 has, replaced with a nicely worn in comfy chair, probably not great for exiting hairpins at mach 2, but just great for continental cruising...Starting is pure pleasure, twist of the key and she burst into life with a loud growl but settles almost immediately into a gentle V8 throbby purr, the exhaust makes her louder than std, but I like it - ALOT.
Starting off is easy, the gate is a dog legged 1st, similar to 80's Ferrari, so I'm very used to the feel, on the move throught the gears is dead easy, despite it's large than average size, she shrinks around you and you can quickly gauge were the corners are using the wing creases as guides.
Now in a Ferrari waiting at junctions is an occupational hazard, only young lads who want a good look or real petrol heads will let you out, In an Aston everyone wants to be your friend, I even had a Taxi let me out yesterday! - An all time 1st.
On the open road, she's unbelivably smooth, power from nothing to way past 5500 rpm, (that's as far as ventured yesterday, Red line at 7000, but I doubt I'll ever do that)...But the biggest most impressive thing is the TORQUE, In third at traffic lights by mistake...I put my foot down, and the World just went backwards as I pulled off - Incredible, simply incredible...On the Motorway, from 50 to a bit over the speed limit goes past in a blink of an eye....But it's not the power, torque or even the looks, it's the real sense of occasion and heritage you get...Knowing that this really was the last of the handmade Aston engineered and produced in Newport Pagnell, Only 356 Vantage Coupe's were ever built, only 42 580Series BBS, Only 4 in Royal Cherry, and I am the very proud owner/custodian of this one!

I'll write more as we get to know each other, but I think this is going to be a very long and beautiful relationship.

argento, thank you for the nice first drive account. i think the royal cherry is the finest color there is. it is a elegant machine.

this has always seemed to me to be the quintessential mans steed. there is really nothing like it except a cobra or a pantera. the latter do not have the grace of the aston but they do pack the same testosterone levels!!

what a car. really nothing i would rather have at this juncture of my life.

    steve,

if you acquire a vantage...between the boxer, panther, and the aston, you will have your business taken care off.

The price range for the Vantage is around $40,000 to $50,000 here in the United States. I have enjoyed seeing them in South Florida. An excellent car. I thought of settling on a Jensen Interceptor--the poor man's Vantage. I thought better of it.

thanks for the enthusiastic reply on your drive, I can almost feel your satisfaction at owning and driving a Vantage. After I sold my first Boxer I was seriously considering buying one and enquired about two examples for sale. As you may know I was all over the place then and also looking at Diablos! Almost bought one of those but a friend in the trade put me right off. I was discouraged on the Vantage also by some trade friends who pointed out that as each car is bespoke, including the engine, parts cost a fortune, and rust is a major issue.
However i have bought ,sold and owned many cars and mainly depended on my own research and judgement. i know I am quite adept at telling a good one when it surfaces. All turned out well though as I did buy another very fine Boxer. Just had to have another. I think the Vantage is next on my list, I do not know of any owners, so your input is invaluable. To me they are quite simply a very cool car, full of class, a kind of muscle car thats been finished in Saville Row if you like. I know from your post you are already taken in by the car and genuinely hope it continues so. Look forward to seeing some good pics please.

You can read my mind Pete. My thoughts exactly. Serious about buying one in the future, I have never driven one but somehow I know I would love it.

Look again, I think a properly sorted V8 Vantage will set you back at least double that. Early DBS V8 are running over $50k

I borrowed one a few years ago. Pootled around Zürich city and the surrounding countryside in it for a few hours. I was surprised at how flat it corners for such a big car. It was soooo nice to drive. A great burble from the exhaust, loads of torque and loads of character.

If you can buy them for that in the US, (assuming you can find a real one), Buy as many as you possible can......A LHD V8 Vantage recently sold in Germany for £104k GBP, It went for a premium because it was LHD, Only 86 of the 356 Vantage's built were LHD. (That's not including the 13 Cosmetic Vantage's built for the US market), of which 9 have been re-engined to Vantage Spec.

    Argento

PS - A Jensen Interceptor, Even the SP, has nothing on a Vantage IMHO of course....(Sorry)

you are correct. at least double that! 40 or 50k does not buy you even the worst vantage on the planet.

for one of argento's caliber w/ 5 sp...well north of $100k usd. WEELLL NORTH!

Because I have an uncle who lives in Market Harborough that have a very similar car a number of years ago.

He had a whole host of things previously, including a Jensen Interceptor with a handbrake that struggled to cope with holding two tons of car on his steeply inclined driveway................the car rolled down his drive, across a main road and went through the front of the bungalow opposite!

    Congrats on the purchase.

430 is history. Wasnt special enough. Temporarily running a Gallardo until i have some idea of what i want! Gallardo is a nice car so far.

Are you trading the 550 in for the Aston?

Gallardo are nice cars, but look and feel dumbed down to a Murcielago, If you want something special, If your remaining Italian - Go for a 575 Superamerica or a Murci Roadster, Beautiful cars both ! Or if you want something really special how about a Vanquish S......Go on, I dare you?.....I Promise you won't go back !

Yes- Trading 550, Same reason as your 430, Just not special enough, (Never thought I'd say that)...

Argento, you do realise being probably the only owner on the board of a 'proper' vantage you are now obliged to keep us constantly supplied with pictures.

Again congratulations. Such a great car.

Am I really? - I'm sure there must be other's, But we all must carry some burden, and if this is mine, that's fine.

Car is back at dealer's today to have some paintwork issues resolved next week, but as soon as it's back I'll post some for you...

    Regards,
