Just flipping through the latest AutoWeek and I've got to admit, Audi is just burying BMW and leaving it for dead with its new designs. I was really impressed with the A5/S5 coupe - shades of Bentley, but possibly even better proportioned. Go to www.autoweek.com if you want the whole story/pics. Anyone agree? Or should I cut down my afternoon beer intake? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
It looks nice from the picture! I have to see it in person to see how the looks compare to BMW's 3-Series.
I seem to be in the minority when I say, and I have absolutely no clue why, Audi's styling is just ok. The new Q7 is just an abomination of an SUV. I rank it down there with the Buick Rendezvous/Pontiac Aztek (ok maybe not THAT bad). The new A4 is nothing special; rather boring I think when put up against a new 335i. The same goes for the A6 when put up against a 5-series. The new A5 is definately a beauty, but once again I think the 335ci just blows this thing out of the water. The A8 is a great car, but i'd take a 750i. I don't know, I just could never see myself buying an Audi over a BMW any day. Oh and looking back at the pics of the A5, i'd say it's got some hints of 335ci in it, maybe why I actually like it.
I agree. Audi has never really done anything for me. They are just an o.k looking car IMO. Looking at the picture of the A5, it's a step in the right direction, but still not up to par with BMW. J
Yes, the Q7 looks clunky, the A4 is duller than dull, possibly scraping Buick-like depths. (Well OK, maybe not.) That's why the A5 caught me off guard. I'll have to see the A5 in person before I commit, but the new 3 series coupes look awkward to me - tiny wheel wells, heavy flanks. The 7 series is wretched to look at, whatever engine lies under the hood. I'm looking forward to the full redesign (they keep doing interim tweaks, but the whole thing needs to go away...) The A4 looks better than its competition, whether or not you like it. A5 looks good, but the inside looks like ****.
I voted #2. All these new cars are nice and all, but none of them really look a lot different than the others, just small changes. This goes for the new Maserati also. The only car I've seen lately that is remarkably different is the Audi R8
The overall shape of the car is nice. I'm not a fan of the tall hood, especially at the leading edge. If they would have brought it down a couple of inches and made the grill smaller, it would look much sleeker. I don't really get why they feel the need to put a truck sized grill on thier cars. The last generation of front end design was much cleaner. Overall all the car does have a good look to it though. Darrell.
I own a A8 and i bereave that audi is the most under appreciated brands out there, exceptional quality and great customer service, i speced out a s class the same way the A8 was and it was 10G more . WHY? i have no idea. I love my audi.
This is also my largest complaint when it comes to audi's style. It's just not for me. Personally, I can't think of a single audi that has ever had that special "x" factor for me. IMHO, this car is just "ehh, whatever."
Say it like it is, Brotha! That A8 is THE BEST luxury car out there. The S-Class may have technology, but the A8 has beauty. NOTHING out there compares to it. I just hope they don't turn the inside into one like the A5 when I am ready to lease one in a few years.
Audi for me, until recently, was always the "other" German brand. I didn't really know much about them, it was always either BMW or Mercedes. But after I researched a bit, and the current across the line styling exercise, I feel that exude the cool, chisled German physique that is missing from BMW's Van Gogh attempts and Mercedes' "lets just stick with what works", aside from the CLS. The A8 has incredible road presence, and looks fantastic in any color, but more so white or black. The A5 continues that tradition of looking great, the solid "full" look of it's body panels is a nice contrast to the A4 which looks a bit, weedy. I love the A5, and the A8. Hopefully there will be an RS5.
Audi was made a very good-looking sportcar, but BMW's 3 and 6 coupés are still better Especially the 645 Ci.
The 645 is the ugliest thing on the road! It's as if they took random shapes and put it to form a car. Not only that, the interior CANNOT be compared to an Audi's.
I agree - I think the 6 is Bangle's biggest bomb. Which is why the A5/S5 got me excited; I like coupes and I need a four-seater later this year. Actually I love the new TT, but the back seat is too much like a prison and the trunk is probably useless.
I haven't seen the new TT yet, but the trunk in the 1st gen was actually pretty useful. The seats fold down and you have a good bit of room. Not as much as a 3 series coupe, since it is much bigger. The back seat is however, useless. I have always loved Audi's, but the newer ones aren't doing much for me. I really don't like the new "corporate" grill.
Looks great in photos but in person at the ny auto show it was just a bit of a disappointment. Not that great a styling exercise. I'm sure it will sell but not that great.
Looking at the new Autoweek's article, I am more and more impressed by the car - I think it's going to sell well as a sub-$75k substitute for people who want a coupe like the MB CL, 6 series and even Continental GT. That flowing beltline is just beautiful, at least in pictures. I really want to see an S5 Cabriolet with a back seat big enough for some kids.
Nice article in Autoweek. Natalie Neff was gushing over the design. I looked at a 3 coupe (at the BMW dealership) last weekend. The previous version was truly stunning. The new one looks cumbersome - very bottom-heavy and bulky. I like what they've done with the engines, and the interior is sharp. But that plain expanse of sheet metal below the character line is just bland. I haven't seen an A5 in person, but in the photos it looks much more like the Bentley Azure, IMO, with the front 'shoulders' level to the rear 'shoulders'. Given Audi's style when it comes to the fine details, I'll bet the A5/S5 steals a lot of sales from BMW.
The RS5 had better be even better looking, and amazing to drive otherwise the new M3 will eat away at any real sales Audi had with the base A5 vs 3 series coupe.
