Yes, not all GTE's had the sequential X-Trac gearbox or the aero changes. This car looks like an LM in most respects and is basically a low spec EVO 1 GTE. Very interesting car regardless!

The last car "40" at Le Mans 1995 is s/n 83405, Mike Sheehan quotes this is a "conversion" and not one of the 6 (Michelotto buildnumbers from 1 to 6) But QV500 say this car is a GTE and not 94362 (CSAI-GT car, but is has michelotto build number 3, so one of the six GTEs!!) But I believe 83405, Ennea team car, together racing in LM95 with 90001 should also carry a Michelotto buildnumber because they prepared the car for a team that already had two cars and a forth (88779) later and when racing at Le Mans it was officially according ACO an F40 GTE.... Maybe someone else can shine a light. Mike Sheehan, F40 GTE's: 82404, michelotto "2" (evo II) 84503, michelotto "6" (evo II) 85015, michelotto "4" 88779, michelotto "5" 90001, michelotto "1" (evo II) 94362. michelotto, "3" (74045, F40 LM, michelotto "13" of 19 F40LMs updated into F40 GTE) QV500: 82404, 84503, 85015, 88779, 90001 and 83405!
here are the chassis numbers(and also build order -considering the first time the car was built and not the following updates): 90001 = full spec 82404 = full spec 94362 = no full spec 85015 = no full spec (3,0 lt engine, steel brakes,5 speed gearbox H pattern) 88779 = no full spec 84503 = full spec full spec = 3,6 lt engine, carbon brakes, sequential gearbox . regards ivo
So 83405 is not a Michelotto car? (so QV500 is wrong?) It is hard to understand that 90001 and 83405 were raced at Le Mans 1995 and both have almost the same specs I believe, that one is a GTE and the other not. I am almost certain that 83405 is also build by Michelotto and has an own number at Michelotto. 94362 looks like a CSAI-GT car. Maybe the name 'GTE' is not always as clear as we think, only when 'GTE' is mentioned in a buildsheet. But yet no one can give it.
Gentlemen, sorry for my poor english, just few words to give you some explanation regarding the 88779. I was the happy owner of a "normal F40 stradale", nice car to go to pick up my bread on sunday morning in my village, a pure french habit, part of our way of life! Then I sold it, stupid action, few years ago. So I tried to get an F40 LM and a friend of mine proposed me this car, # 88779, parked in the back of JMB racing warehouse in Nice. I discovered this marvelous car, it was fully painted in yellow following its use in the French championship. I decided to buy it and to get it repaint in red, fully revised and including the change of the steering wheel (for an official genuine Momo one), the installation of two OMP new seats and new harness. The pics showing #88779 at the egining of this chat are taken in JMB racing premises, there was also an article in a magazine presenting hte project for JMB to restore few cars like mine. Then I got a shake out session on HTTP in Le Castellet with an ex pilot,, Mr jean Pierre Malcher, passing at 280 in the straight line and Signes turn was telling me that this car was really better than the 575 GTC runing in FIA GT at this time in JMB Racing team (we replaced the used brembo 8 calipers brakes in front by 575 GTC brembo brakes as brembo refused to restore the used ones). At this time without restrictor this car was supposed to get from its 3 liters engine 760 HP for 1050 Kgs, not so bad, the best car I ever had. So after this great experience and several turns alone on Le Castellet track, I was runing this fabulous car several time during Ferrari France club events in 2005. As a pure competition car, it was quite difficult to run it on a daily basis, external booster to start it for example,.... but my kids where really enjoying several turn on Le Mas du Clos track, Le Vigeant track during what we call 200 ferrari pour le cancer ( a nice event allowing to raise money for Poitiers hospital involved in Cancer treatment). Then for personnal reason I was obliged to sell it, and the car disapeared in South Africa, and as i know the owner, a pure italian ferrari fanatic, i am sure that we will see again this car in Europe during several events. By the way, I was giving with the car the "old" steering wheel as well as the seat and the harness as it seems that all of them where used in Le Mans 1996, I was suggesting to the new owner to repaint also the full Le Mans 96 look. Have a look on the following pics showing a little part of this car story. I remain at your disposal, should you have any comments or questions. Dominique, So when you had the car it had a 3 liter engine. According to ACO Le Mans books it had a 3.5 ltr engine when raced at Le Mans 1996. Maybe you have more info.
You should know that the GTE where available with 3, 3,5 or 3,6 liters, depending mainly on the race or track configuration as well as local organisation status. So, for Le Mans race this one was equipped with a 3,5 liter, and for its carrier in France GT championship, the engine was a 3 liter with restrictors. I got the car with several boxes of spares, including the removed restrictors (in fact two diameters types). the car is still without restrictors, under renovation in Italy, I just got some news from its new owner, I hope to see it with him this summer. Regards, Dominique

Djui5, thanks for your nice message, but you should know that I made the worst mistake of my life: I sold this fabulous car! (sometime you have to do some difficult things in your life). But I am still looking for its replacement, few months to wait!
Dominique, Welcome to FChat. Thank you for sharing the great story and the wonderful pictures. Are you actively looking right now? I'm sure you have seen the LM and the LM GTE that Michael Sheehan has on his site? LM 97881 http://www.ferraris-online.com/pages/carintro.php?reqcardir=FE-F40LM-97881 LM GTE 85015 http://www.ferraris-online.com/pages/carintro.php?reqcardir=FE-F40-85015
Is that a LM GTE? I thought they all had the larger sides on the wing? Either way, those two cars are INSANE!
Joe, I was last year in touch with the guys from Maranello motorsport in Australia, discussing the possibility to get one of such cars. I heard also that one (GTE) was crashed, any way of getting confirmations?
Hi Dominique, You heard that 85015 was crashed? That's interesting as all I ever read is how "untouched" it is. There are several Australian FChatters who know this car well so I hope they can comment. --- For what it's worth (take it with a grain of salt because the writer "heard" about it instead of saw it), see the last post in this thread from another forum: http://www.nobleforums.com/showthread.php?t=1075
It was apparently "crashed" when it was owned by Caiola in the USA. My understanding is that it was a very minor incident that required repairs to the front and rear bodywork. This may explain the LM wing? I don't know more than that, perhaps other US folks do. In any case, there is no visible evidence of any repairs and the car is in absolutely stunning condition. I would happily buy it without a second thought, and I am seriously fussy! No vested interest whatsoever BTW.
