Engine lid for a Mondial t-----------anyone? God, would that look good on a 348------------- Cheers, Hank
Mmm, i see you never read my post were i said that only a 360 spider glass could only be used And that it has to be inverted upside down This is so that there is sufficient meat around the hinge/top side of the lid.
Just the 360 spider glass and grill which lift up on the 360 together, (see the picture as the 430 is the same). About the 355 lid, my body shop said that it would not take much just to make another for me if i wanted to keep my original. Or they could of course modify a spare lid if i bought one. Is the glass laminated? If so then I can make the glass to exactly suit the job (can tint it as well). I feel a kit coming on
My question is do you need the glass and grill area only from the 360??? And then find a spare 355 lid that can be cut to fit. Or can the entire 360 rear bonnett be retrofitted??
Yes dude, thats what i said, only the glass and grill from a 360. The glass is set into the standard 355 lid, but up side down (wide end of the glass towards the bumper end). I cant put in any simpler than that
Now I understand. I need the glass/grill combo from the 360 and a 355 lid to fit it in.. What is the glass made of?? real glass or some kind of lexan??
And dude it has to be a SPIDER engine lid. The 360 Coupe is no good because its a different design and does not sit flat due to it being curved and the grills are not grills but slots.
Does anyone have any other info on this?? Procedures, any other parts reqiured, etc?? I have a guy that owns a custom body shop --He told me he would do it, just find out all I possibly can about the design...I showed him the pics and he said no problem to do it, he just wants as much info as possible before he starts. I guess I need an extra 355 lid and a 360 Spider glass/grill insert--Anyone????
Do it Robbie! I'd like to see how it looks on a yellow GTB Personally I don't think it's 'too much' - for most bystanders or people who see it driving the lines will be identical. You really won't notice it much until you walk up to it and look in.
Though I'm not aware of any in existence, I've often thought a really cool look would be to make the deck lid out of the same mesh as is used for challenge grilles. Though I don't actually own an f-car (yet), just thought it could be a suggestion that may or may not be interesting to you (admittedly I'm not particularly technically minded, but I'd guess if you produce a kit, it shouldn't be too difficult to do a mesh version as well as a glass version) - I don't know what other owners think (or whether there would be the numbers to make a business case for a mesh version). Anyone care to comment? PS: Thanks for posting here, I haven't checked on Monzer progress lately. Heading over to the Mondial section now!
I am working on it. I called Daniel and got prices on NEW parts. I have a call to my used ferrari parts guy to see what he can do. The body shop guy is ready to do it...It is going to depend on parts pricing. If it can be done for less than 5K---I may jump on it..
I think that is a very good looking modification. It's my understanding that one person did that some time ago to a 348 and showed the car at a car show. A Ferrari factory person saw that car there and suggested to Ferrari brass that it be applicable to later model versions which, subsequently, became the 360/430 style.
Not sure about the story (unlikely) but here is the 348: Zagato Elaborazione http://www.qv500.com/ferrari348p4.php
I wish I could locate that original article. I read it about 1 1/2 years ago and I do not remember where! Not remember where I was when I read it but rather in what publication I read it! Clarification for Chris.
i found these 2 links way down on page 55 (while making sure my choice of a 355 GTS was gonna be the right one) Thinking of putting a glass boot on my 348 look at this 355!!!
Looks great! Very nicely done. But I don't feel a K series engine is something worth displaying in the manner of a Ferrari unit
I would seriously consider it for my 348 Spider, if someone offered it as a kit AND it was fully reversible.
I will be needing a 355 fiberglass rear deck lid to modify when we put on the 360 intake.....is there anyone in the states that has a mold for this??
