I miss that car every day.... I am glad that you are still enjoying her today trouble free. I wasn't kidding when I said that we (JRV and I) went trough her with a fine tooth comb... :) It's good to hear that my baby found a good loving home..

i have kept quiet about jrv's condition for some time. although many people have known he was in poor health, it really hasn't been discussed. i have never done business with jrv, but he always held it against me for saying what i said on fchat many years ago. that was "jrv has many people that have talk bad about him, but he also has a very loyal following, not having had specific transactions with him, i can't say. but he does have a good number of people that swear by him and his work over many years" - or at least something to that effect.

forget about the turnoil he stirred up here on fchat, jrv was very passionate about what he believed. he would fight for his chance to state his opinions and back them up. i think we all know how stubburn he could be, but he truely was a guy that thought people were out to get him. whether true or not, it kept him from forming close relationships. whether or not, jrv rubbed you wrong or not, he didn't care, he did , however care about italian cars and the knowledge he could share, often times at no income to him, about them.

when i shared info about buying (or bailing a car out of a side yard of a home) a dino, i never went into details about jrv. the car was a car he was working on and became too ill to finish. i posted pics of the dino being picked up,, but edited the photos as to not compromise jrv, his health, or his reputation. here are a couple more photos of the car being "saved".

although john definitely pissed a good number of people off, he truely cared about italian cars. i think WE all forced him into the ferrari-talk site because of his nature. i last spoke with jrv in the fall, he kept his promise to me to get me the steering wheel for the dino, which he had in storage. knowing how sick he was, he still stood behind his passion until the end. although, at times he was cocky, near the end , he was humble and considerate. most people only know jrv from fchat or ferrai-talk. say what you will, he was harse, he was combative, but he was also passionate. he kept his word to me, the only real business relationship i ever had with him.

i never talked about it when the circumstances were current, but the story of "his miura" being crashed and destroyed and etc..........

the miura is the car under the tarp by the dino, they were parked nose-to-nose

    Holy ****...!

Lots of controversy surrounding JRV - pretty much as far back as I can remember. I remember finding out a year or two ago that he was not well. May he rest in peace. My condolences to his friends and family.

I am saddened to hear this. When we lived in Houston from 1985-1991, I got to know John pretty well. A founder of the Texas Ferrari Club, he was an enthusiast first and foremost. He was such a great help when I bought my first Ferrari, and I believe to this day he was the finest Fcar mechanic I have done business with. I used to visit his shop frequently. He was always helpful in answering questions and giving guidance. When we moved to California in 1991, correspondence became less frequent as often happens. John was one of the reasons I love these cars as I do. For me, he was a great guy and an honest and reliable source of information. May he RIP always. He will not be forgotten.

Didn't know the guy at all but heard about the controversy here and there. He seemed like a knowledgeable but wound up person. Maybe there's a little lesson that the F marque is meant to be enjoyed but don't take it and life too seriously. RIP guy.

jr was the first person i interacted w/ on f-chat all those years ago. i had problems w/ my boxer and i remember posting my first thread...jr was the first to respond. i remember thinking wow...who is this guy...and holly cow is this site impressive!

like jp sarti in the foregoing post mentioned...jr really helped us own our cars and we could not have done it so well with out him. he loved our boxers and was always so quick to give us instant access to his knowledge.

i am crushed by this news and indeed this makes me very sad.

    rest in peace jr.

Your legacy lies in inspiring others that they can work on these cars.
