He pulled my 87 328 up after some minor service and said..

"I have some bad news... the automatic steering pump is dead, the ABS brakes are shot and the airbags don't work."

    Funny guy.

Never tell a Ferrari owner that "you have some bad news." :)

    Lol.

A little known workaround for the airbag issue: I keep a Ziploc bag in the door pocket. If I think I'm going to crash I whip that thing out, blow in it and stick it to the steering wheel with tape.

The Ziploc bags with the cavallino emblem are only $249, concours correct.

The funny thing is that the odd owner would ask to have it fixed.

I know my 86 328 doesn't have a steering pump..does the '87? I also know the ABS was an option until later?...also not sure about the air bag on an '87..hmm??...someone with more experience needs to chime in.

A mechanic with a sense of humor....how rare. Tell him you only have about $400 in your bank account, we'll see how quickly he stops smiling......

My mechanic in Charleston once quoted me a completed repair bill over the phone and was off by a digit....I went in to pay a $8,000 bill and it was only $800.....he thought it was dead-hilarious.

    He was kidding.

No power steering on 328s. They're manly cars.

ABS wasn't available till 1988.5 models, standard on the '89 cars.

That's a great idea. But if that sounds too complicated I'm sure you could find a set of the automatic seat belts from a wrecked tr and install those.

Jon: I thought you got that inflatable doll for an airbag workaround. Must’ve been for some other purpose.

Seat cushion or flotation device in the case of a water landing by the Ferrari.

She has her own Ziploc. Can't risk anything happening to her.
