Does anyone know if there is a finish on the front lower grill on late 308 models? It looks like aluminium with no finish but not sure. Want to clean it up and was thinking of using a very fine steel wool with solvent.

try a search. there was a thread not too long ago that gave all finishes model year appropriate. mine's black, no horse. polishing compound and elbow grease are what i use on aluminium.

I believe it is raw aluminum based upon what I have read in the past.

I believe it is clear annodized. A rub-through the surface electro coating will change the appearance, and oxidize as well. Ask me how I know this. I would stay away from abrasive cleaners. LPS Precision clean is a great product.

    What year 308?

All mine (1976-77) are just brushed aluminum and Mother's Mag or Billet Wheel polish made them look nice......

All the grills I have seen are clear annodized aluminum. As such any abrasive will damage them.
