Tachometer starts to act crazy and jerky when car get to about 7500, though engine sounds fine and not bogging or anything. Happened twice today as I was further testing the sweat spots and a 360 showed up during my drive today. I know this guy and he is a real jerk, and thinks his 360 spyder can beat the new Z06 on a track or straight. Not a car guy, a guy that drives it like a Bentley.

U all think its the guage or ignition? And while on that topic, anyone try using better dual coils and MSD ditital ignition without the COP setup? Just two coils like stock, but upgraded like MSD and the control box?

Well, in all fairness it could also be that you were just hitting the Rev Limiter. Hard to diagnose without being there!

Ya know what? Now that you mentioned it that could have been it. But then again he said the engine sounds fine. I have hit the rev limiter before, and you DEFINATELY know you hit it.

i must be such a wuss haha. ive never been courageous enough to hit the rev limiter

you might also want to tell him that the only Ferrari faster than the new Z06 is an Enzo... what a moron .. although, i would take that 360 Spider over the Vette anyday

For sure didn't hit the rev limiter. Tach went wacko jacko twice just under stock rev limit, and its set a bit higher then that.

Nice link on the updated alt. parts! Going to have to pick those up soon. Anyone try those ignition mods though? Going to get an optima battery when rebuilding the Alternator also. Might just do it with the engine out, want to powder coat some stuff anyhow. I know I wanted a project for my off time, but boy, I may have to speed up and get that new place with the larger garage and high ceilings, throw a 4 post in that bad boy..

If I don't drive it or any extended trips and plan a major service in just a few months, should I just wait when I have everything out?

Well you can chance it but, don't be surprised if the car stops running all of a sudden. If you are driving it around and start to get the wacky tach issue followed by the battery light coming on, I would get it home asap, or pull over and let the alternator cool off for a while. I had that same senario happen to me, and I ended up have to call AAA for a ride home. The regulator inside the alternator will work fine when it's cool, but once it starts to heat up that is when the problems start.

You can pull the alternator, put in a new regulator, and reinstall it in a couple of hours. If you only want to buy the regulator you can pick one up for about $40 depending on the shop. Just make sure you don't tell them what it's going into, or you'll get the "Ferrari tax" add in, if you catch my drift.
