Other planets are warming too. The sun is emitting more solar heat then ever before. Not to say that we can't all do our part to help the planet. Maybe start by stopping wars which are disastrous for the environment. But hey, it's easier for the Feds to pick on cars ;)

That was one of the dates. The other one had something to do with the 6,000 years Satan rules the earth, with a certain calendar placing the year 6,000 somewhere near 2025, which would have been the date 5,000 on the calendar, but was actually the 6,000th year because of a -1,000 start date, if that makes sense.

    Anyway, carry on.

If I remember right.. I was taught that we were going to be out of gas and under ice by now.

GW is great for leverage in a political senario.. "Do you want to kill all life on this planet?" The answer is always no, and the follow-up is always a "What can I do?"

As Wax alluded to- follow the money. An $8 lightbulb.. Please sir, can I have some more?

Wow, the worlds coming to an end.

When's the next comet swing'n round? Everyone needs to get purple robes and nike shoes so we can catch the spaceship following the comet.

Seasoned Oak. I get tired of cleaning the chimney. I blame the hog farm over the hill for global warming. They make lots of fumes!

I just wonder why there's never an "environmental crisis" that *doesn't* require the public to take a hit.

We never seem to see an environmental issue that could be cured by making changes to the gov's operations alone -- less paper use, or different fuel in missiles, etc.

Could global warming be reduced if we cut out all the hot air from political speeches? :p

And what about all that CO2 produced by vegetarians? :D

Good article. Never did say that we difinitively are the cause....just that its happening... Hybrids aren't selling cuz of this, but cuz crude petro has shot up. I dont see alot of profit being made yet cuz of this percieved, global warming thing. It's just plain market pressures dictating price.

Whats next? Scientists all colluding in a "big" conspiracy?? Boy, better hope that not even one of them, just one, doesn't spill the beans on the rest involved in the big conspiracy with Governments and boom......the secret's out! Pretty loyal scientists, to have spent 7-8 yrs in college, only to sell themselves off to government for a grand conspiracy.

    I disagree.

I think there is global warming, but it's real effect won't start to hit for 20-30 years.
We can do everything 'right' here, in the USA, but until the Union Carbides, DuPonts, Ciba-Geigy's and GAF's of the world do something to their factories in 3rd world countries, and China does something, nothing WE do will make much difference.

Your first mistake is that you believe the greatest bunch of damned fools who ever lived. Having established that. Remember malthus and food. Good. You don't drive enough to matter. Consider that the Ice Age is not over.

Dynamic weather variation has occured for the last 4 billion years. Kansas used to be an inland sea (lots of fossils there). Virginia was also. So was Texas. The Mastadons died out in about 100 years (there were no cars).

Conserve. I've always done that. However, If you believe you are greater than the Earth and can influence it, you are delusional. Katrina wiped out New Orleans because fools, living below sea level don't believe water seeks its own level.

Who is going to tell the Earth that some blithering idiot bought carbon credits and paid them to his political buddies. Will the Earth listen. I think not. Oh yes, very trendy Outer Banks, NC has had its butt kicked for hundreds of years. Read some history of the Hatteras light.

"Mother Earth" does what she wants. You get in the way, do so at your peril!

BTW, fluorescent bulbs contain mercury vapor. Want to deal with that? You are right to conserve. You are right to be concerned. I do all the conservation I can. I throw nothing away that can be reused or put to another use. I will not commit suicide in the interest of stupidity.

Just one more comment. Do you rake and bag leaves? I don't even do that. I grind and much all my leaves. Love to show you my gardens. Drive my 575M on weekends? I do.

Sorry. You are a good person and God bless!

I've been hoping to get out of Earth's way --- but we haven't even landed the first explorer on Mars, much less a colony. ;)

    (Now *that* would be a "fly-away" F1 race. :D)
(And a Martian GP would be a challenge for mechanical grip, too.)

The mayan calendar didn't see that whole Conquistador thing coming. :p

Correction: This was started by a thread which regards the latest, recent (last week) UN prognosis/predictions.....which in the past, were considerably different. Never was there mention of 30% species extinction within 13 years.

Respectfully, Rifledriver, put away the wooden boat, for now (LOL). In truth, that boat makes me crack up with laughs every time, but this time, you pulled it out prematurely.

Your fellow chatter spending too much time on work break on FChat,

Are any of these scientists by any chance the same ones who predicted gloom and doom for computers because of the millenium?

Dynamic weather change has been going on for 4 billion years. It will continue with or without us. You may want to read the first chapter of "Jurrasic Park" as well as "Fear"

I love that word, "apparent." Three years ago we had an Apparent drought. This year we have an apparent flood situation. This year we apparently had the coldest February on record and the coldest Easter in Atlanta in 100 years.
It snowed this weekend. Kansas used to be an inland sea and Antarctica used to be a tropical forest. Modern man replaced predecessors who were built for the ice age. The ice age might not be over. Dinosaurs could not survive today because the atmosphere has changed. Everything changes. Get used to it.

the reality of the situation is that unless the coasts flood we have little to fear from immediate effects

If you are poor and live in Africa, S America, or anywere else its time to be scared though

Suppose the US stops sendin food & $ assistance to Africa & other poor places. This could have the effect of 1 BILLION or more people dead in a few years

I am truly expectin somethin enormously awful to happen between 2012 & 2020 that will cause a major dyin off of the human pop since many different predictions all agree that this period will see a major adjustment, just like begining of 21st C did
