Hello fellow "F"-chatters, Anyone out there have the same car I do? A 1979 308GTB, I'm looking to get the same radio that may have came with my car as O.E. Thanks Guys! Chris.
They were dealer installed....could be anything...Blaupunkt was popular... OE was a radio blanking plate!
And Bosch group won't be much help -- I just looked at the Blaupunkt history page, which claims that their first stereo cassette radio was 1980. Which is interesting as I have one in my 1979 Alfa -- installed at the dealer in 1979. (Granted, it was fairly new at the time.)
The "blanking plate", id it cover an otherwise crudely cut out hole? Crudely= like someone hacked it out with a hacksaw? Thanks, Chris.
Here you can see the Blaupunkt models from the 70's. http://users.skynet.be/antique.autoradio/Blaupunkt/Blaup_77/Blaup-77.htm
When you figure out which it was let me know. I have been buying up older blaupunkt car radios for years. I even have many of the eq's that came with them. I may have exactly what you need.
Don't forget Becker. And Pioneer, Panasonic maybe. And any other brand of radio from the period. IF you want a definitive answer, email this guy... Mitchell, Thomas TMitchel AT harmanbecker.com He can give you the details on what Becker would be correct, and will probably have one, reconditioned, in stock, for immediate delivery. DM
You need one of these. It's an audio system tailored to the 328's engine. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It's the factory plate. The owner bought the car as an investment, never bothered to install a radio. Second owner trailered it to shows. So, no radio, and at this point I feel like I should leave it as is. But it does make it easier to park it with the top off. Less temptation for idiots to mess with the car.
Plus what could be better sound than the sweet tune of the raw exhaust, Its better than the 6.1 surround sound. I have radio in mine but I never use it.
There you go! I have Blaupunkt cassette installed by Tonkin 1980 in a 1977 car... Then the Art Car has been modded to a modern CD player that thankfully has detachable face, that looks blank until it lights up like a jukebox!!!!
Anyone wanna see some Blaupunkt 'round ball' surface rear speakers??? LOL! Gets old after awhile, like a pair of bad headphones......
Nice! My car's previous owner had an Alpine installed and a six disc changer. I've turned it on once but I don't really see the point. Can't hear it anyway and why would I want to! Jeff
I have a Blaupunkt in my car. It's the worst piece of junk radio I've ever had. It won't tune, and I haven't been able to use the tape player. As soon as I find a suitable three hole radio I'll swap it out. An Audiovox or any old time radio would be a better choice for radios. bob
I have a '75 308/GT4 and the original stock radio is a Blaupunkt Aspen SQR 24. I does have a cassette player and a (useless) LED clock display.
Ferrari also used Becker radios ...either from the factory or more likely from the dealer. Like my Maserati, I believe they installed whatever mirrors and radios that were close at hand. The mirrors on my '78 308 GTS are much goofier than the later mirrors. They are somewhat oval with a flexible rubber neck that resembles a miniature air inlet to air box hose. The RH mirror quickly looses it's erection and after only a few bumps and grinds ends up hanging like a limp noodle:-( Jim
My '78 GTS came with a Blaupunkt Bamberg Radio. However, I wouldn't recommend it. It has a funny way of presetting the tuning and the AM dial is split in 2 sections. For more on the radio, see http://www.parrotbyte.com/kbc/ferrari/308/Radio.htm Image Unavailable, Please Login
Do you have the Magnum PI DVD collection? If you do pop in "Beauty Knows No Pain" from season one and freeze the scene when Magnum downshifts to run from a guy tailing him. You'll see a real nice shot of the Blaupunkt in that 79 308 he's driving. It's a fair bet that may be the same that your 79 had. If not it will be close enough for sure.
USA model 308's left the factory with two door speakers (cleverly muffled with a poorly perforated leather covered panel), the aforementioned radio blanking plate and a power antenna operated by a console toggle switch. If any new 308 was delivered with a radio installed, it was done by the dealer, either at their own request or that of the original owner. Only European versions were available with radios from the factory and it was an option, not standard equipment.
I don't know if this helps, but my 78 GTS, 24961 came from the factory with a Sanyo stereo according to written correspondence between the original owner and Ferrari Sales Director. It has long since been replaced with a seldom used Alpine. I can get the exact information this evening if you like and I believe there on part numbers on the correspondence.
Thanks, this is the exact radio I have and so far I've hated it. Now maybe I can make friends with the radio. Like you, I plan to remove it one day and send it to somebody who can fix it. Bob Wassam
I have the same radio in my 79 GTS. It works fine but the knobs need replacing as they tend to slip while tuning. The additional tuning component seems redundant, and just something to clutter the dash. I'd go with a period Becker if I could find one. I do have the original owners manual however.
My 1979 GT4 came with a Blaupunkt Bamberg, too. So, that looks to be the one. (previous owner swapped out for Alpine 7280 Digital...but I still have the original Blaupunkt booklet). I guess to be "correct", I have to go find an old Blaupunkt and install it instead of the Alpine.
