A few things ferrari SHOULD do...

What Ferrari needs to do is put some RELIABILITY into the car. The cars are just fine, but the assembly is PISS POOR. If they put rock solid QUALITY into the cars, then I think the price could be justified better. Take a page out of the Lexus book "the endless pursuit of perfection". In my opinion THAT is what Ferrari is missing.

They got it SOOOOO right using a chain for the cams in the 430, and they did bump the displacement of the engine quite nicely. But Ferrari's are not known for being reliable cars.

Reliability is what Ferrari needs.

 

Well serviced, regularly driven Ferraris have a very good reliability record.

 

Agree with Brian two of my much praised Lexus have had several recall programs in the last two years having worked in the Automotive industry for many years and knowing manufacturing operational process what is going on at Ferrari is fantastic and the build quality of many cars today is incredibile compared to what used to go on in the " Good old days"

 

Every idea is good. But do a pick-up truck? Ferrari is a SPORTCAR ...

 

Ferrari pickup would do MAD sales-- and the snob factor of an affordable Ferrari would take a skinning if the "merely" rich could get one-- why they would be in the same locker as BMW, Porsche, etc.:O

+100. At the out of sight prices that these cars are commanding in this day and age, you present owners should demand nothing less than the best. Also, how is it possible than the only Ferrari that interests me is the entry level F430? Is no secret that ever since the introduction of the 550 Supra i mean Maranello!, things have been going downhill in the design department. Makes me wonder what other design ideas they rejected from Pininfarina that would have been truly worthy of the legendary Ferrari name.

 

Although I still gawp at every Ferrari I see I know what you mean. When the 430/599/Enzo came out they all had to grow on me. When the LP640 came out I nearly fell off my chair...

 

some of these posts are so off base, so ridiculous, such narrow minded views, they are driving me crazy...can't wait for qualifying...

 

A) Price is in line with the competitors, and just about every automotive journalists says the 430 is hands down the best and most complete sports car around.
B)Let's stop copying the past, I don't mind a little detail , like the tail lights etc, but not a whole car.
C)Why would anyone pay supercar prices for a raw car like the F40 nowadays? Don't get me wrong , it was a great car but why go back? Why not have some comfort and the speed, no reason to compromise anymore.
D)Hopefully Ferrari never does an SUV like the others.

 

will folks let off the corvetts already the car while neat and all is fine to own but i recomend buying a ferrari and a z06 i mean tons of folks ive seen around do just that flog the z06 and be a little nicer to the ferrari, as in who cares if you wad up the chevy.

anyone whos all stuck on the chevy needs to go drive these cars all of them... oh wait probly noone will let them behind the wheel of their ferrari. luckily i have some friends who trust me enough and have experienced many really great cars and continue to do so the viper i can tell you is crap brutal acceleration which is fun for about 5 minutes, while you wresltle with the wheel to get it to turn, the nsx is tons of fun so much finnese i dont even think at 300hp they are underpowered. the c5 corvette while outdragging the heck out of the nsx is nothing special, handling is decent, but the feeling and driver feedback still lack, im hoping to purchase a ferrari360 comming up soon and ill let you know how it stacks up, unless somone is willing to pilot one of theirs lol, but seriously.

those that dont know don't know, and if they are still singing corvettes praises all day long, then they have never driven anything better. either that or they do not know how to drive a car. so they do not know what a good car should feel like. I see that form of ignorance all the time.

Ive litterlly seen with my own eyes someone hop in a honda accord and say "wow the handling" sadly no that wasent handling that was incredible body roll. I had someone let me drive their acura TL to show off just how incredible of a car it is. and what a major disapointment that car is, horrid toruqe steer, the brakes and clutch are vague. steering is really limited in its feed back, sure it has 300hp and it drags ok but who cares, it drives like a pregnant whale speaking of which most people that bought those cars probly had an suv or something even worse handling before so in that sense for them it is a better car. too each their own the TL is a great road family car but not a sports car.

people are so confused and misinformed on cars. take the time to educate yourself. I dont know how to fix the problems though as I am reluctant to let people even drive our cars and they are lowly bmw's and mercedes. but my cars are like by babies. a few of my trusted friends are allowed but not many others. and im sure ferrari owners are more discering than I.

maybe save your pennies and get the bank roll to really afford a ferrari then go on some legitimate test drives at the dealer, trust me those corvetts will start to look like tin cans.

 

Nope. Less weight. Better suspension. Better interiors and ergos. Smoother tranny. I could go on and on ....

Nope. The electronic laden Enzo already is a beast. Imagine if it didn't have any driver aids? Ridiculous!

Now we're talking. <lol> Hmmm, first I think Ferrari should start building reliable cars and making sure that Ferrari dealers are held accountable for service failures.

All of these are true, except the one about fat chicks. I have a friend that likes the more robust women, and as long as they have all of their body parts, they can do everything a "hottie" can do and even better because they try harder.

Personally, I like them on the slender side.

 

I think that we need to get one thing straight:

I don't care if the 70K Z06 has more hp. There could be a day when they have something stupid like 200 more hp than its comparable Ferrari.

The fact of the matter is, there is not one Corvette owner out there that wouldn't trade their Z06 for a Ferrari.

Here you go again. Stop making so much sense! Maybe some of our brethren do not remember the idea that gearing makes the difference between a "drag" car and a "road" car. Ferraris are road cars. They are geared for high speed. If you want to race "ricers" on the weekend, you have the wrong car.n This makes the big "R's" point. Ricer drivers are different. We should stop trying to compete with them on the way to the freeway. And, stop playing to class warfare. It's different. It's expensive. It's thrilling. It's for the few. Guilt is not in it!

 

The last 3 or 4 new models have been a letdown in the styling department.

All you have to do is compare them to Lamborghini or Aston-Martin; they come off like the ugly duckling on a bad hair day.

This is a tragic state of affairs for the company that led sports car style so well for so long.

 

Personally speaking, I enjoy Ferrari just the way it is. And while I prefer the Ferrari for a number of different reasons, I drill it down to the simple "bling" factor:

Take a 1978 Ferrari 308GTS and a 2007 Corvette to the local club/restaurant/etc and valet park both vehicles.

Which car do you think they are leaving out front?

I like your idea of more power in the F430, especially since the competition is doing pretty well in that regard. The (supposed?) increase in power to the F430 "Stradale/Light Pista" is a welcome sight.

I don't like turbos in a Ferrari, all things being equal, though.

If Ferrari ever makes a normal family-friendly 4-door sedan or truck or SUV or (heaven help us!) a frickin mini-van, then Ferrari simply won't be Ferrari anymore! I vote "NO" to this line of thinking.

I also don't want to see significent increases in the number of vehicles Ferrari produces per year, either.

Now reducing the price of Ferrari PARTS...I could get behind that!

 

Yes, the design department could use some improving. "Recent" designs include the Enzo, 612, and 599 GTB....not the best looking cars around...especially the 612...but to each his own.

But I love the 550, and 360/F430....and among older models the F50 and 328, and F40.

Also, Porsche etc. have NOT been doing very well in the design area either, IMO.

 

First, I'll premise by saying I've never driven a top end "sports car", neither a 430 or a Z06 Vette....but....

I wish Ferrari would build a smaller, lighter, more agile car. I have test driven a 308/328 and 308GT4 (ok, so its a Dino...) and I really LOVED the feel of those cars. I've seen the larger/newer cars, like the vette or the 430 (showroom or street), and I know from feedback on the list that those cars will smoke the old 308's in a spirited "run in the hills", but still.... the feel of the older, lighter "flickable" cars I think is why I'd rather have a 308 than one of the newer ones.

Someone mentioned the Atom, that would be an awesome Ferrari.... if it just was styled like an Fcar and had the famous Fcar sound.

Ah, the old caveat "I'm a non-owner".... Just so I don't get any bashing.

There's not a Lambo on the planet that looks as elegant or as sexy as a 360/430, IMO. Aston, OTOH, is one of the most absolutely gorgeous cars ever.

Corvette's have fiberglass bodies, therefore they do not look like tin cans...it's plastic bottles man!!! Plastic bottles!

 

Well serviced, or well repaired? In my book there is a BIG difference, and it seems to lean way more towards the repaired side, and at the owners cost.

If only is was that the cars just needed to be "serviced". Change the oil, coolant, gas and go. Sadly that isn't the case.

Sorry, but I still say what Ferrari needs is reliability.

 

++ on the Aston, especially the new 4door and the V8. Amazing that some of their less expensive cars are better styled than some of the big ones.

-- on the 360,430. I am just one of the fans who simply do not like what they did to the grille openings...and I think they could jolly well afford to lose those buck rogers taillights too. Great car mechanically, though.

*$!##% on the latest front engine models. I can still barely stand to look at them and remember the front engine V12 cars of the past.
