You mean except for the fact that it doesn't have any oil pressure?

Look at the gauges in the picture. Tach at 1,000 rpm and the "G" light is off.
Car was running when the picture was taken.
Look at the temp then the pressure gauge. Not fully warm, yet VERY little pressure.

Driver's seat is pretty beat up.

    Series 3 car with a series 1 owner's manual.

Look closely at this one. Its always the details that tell the real story.

Nice write up and great pictures.

Regardless of the above, this one will bring big bucks.

    Agree, this is nice.

Only 'wrongs' I could see are

    PH on the front grill
    conversion to single distributor
    Smog pump gone
    Wrong plug wires and extenders
Black plastic donut missing from jack kit?

    ___

    On another topic:

I had previously started a thread about the composition of the rear deck lid. It seemed like the steel ones needed a better support. Is that what we are seeing here? Even if this is not 'original' by duplicating this trunk stay I may be able to keep my steel lid from slamming down.

    Dave,

It looks to me like (according to the gauge) there's 40-50 psi oil pressure. Temp gauge reads around 80 C, pretty warmed up for a car just idling.

I'm not saying it's a good car, but I don't see anything wrong.

This car is showing just a few pounds above the factory "shut down" pressure & the kick off of the warning light and he's running 20w50 in it..
Check your workshop manual and you'll see.

It doesn't matter because someone is going to pay big $$ for this car. The photos will catch someone's eye. People always post the best pictures first. I always read an ad from the bottom up. 'ol eagle eye Dave always catches things others don't because they become enamoured by the first few pretty pictures. The first 1 or 2 well done photos always causes them to overlook the details.

Noticed how nobody saw the missing distributor, driver's seat, oil pressure, MSD ignition, horse on the grill in one picture and missing in another, the oil pressure, the wrong manual on a car that has " the complete original factory paperwork".

Like I said it'll bring big bucks because it looks really nice and it has an excellent write up with professional looking photos.
Interesting that he is honest and says it has a few small oil leaks.Good for him; being honest.
We always used to say, "If it doesn't leak a bit of oil then the sump is empty."

....from the way the ad is written I think this car belongs to an Fchatter.

for 1978. I think they all series II and III cars come with series one manuals and supplements.

I noticed the different ignition, the PH on the grill and a few of the other mods. Notice how I did not say wrong who knows it might just make the car more driveable/enjoyable to own. To me that is not a big wrong. Looks like a nice well preserved car and I hope to see it go for good money.

I think it will. It looks great.

Just for the fun of it I thought I'd check to see how much a distributor was for the purists.
I'm amazed, they're not too bad, around $400.

PS - Does anyone know who bought the blue/boxer GT4 that was on Ebay a couple of weeks ago for $29k?

plus the 1975 dated Series I manual. A couple of the supplements actually reference the series I manual for "additional information" Being low volume cars I guess they did not want to have to reprint edit a "perfectly good manual" so they chose to just add addendums and supplements.

Anyone else find the same with their series II, III cars? John in CO?

The bottom of the 1978 supplement reads "This booklet together with the Standard version of the 1975 308 GT4 owners manual shows the main information necessary for proper use of the body"

    Interesting!
I hadn't noticed that before. So does your suppliment book show the different a/c vents, etc? (guess I could dig out the copy I have and look, but who knows where it is)

And just curious here......why do you suppose anyone would go to a single dizzy? Sure its easy to adjust compared to the twin set up. But large $$.

You know it never ceases to amaze me the condition some of these cars are in. I own a few British cars of the same era, all have been restored. I wouldn't even think about trying to find one in close to original condition and assume it would be a pretty nice car. Just how many e-type Jags or TR6's do you think are out there with low miles in original condition?

Think about it, these are 30+ year old cars. Incredible that any of these are still in unmolested shape.

Yes, this particular car has been modified a bit, and frankly I'd have concerns about the oil pressure (you could test that for under $200), but I think it is amazing that they even exist in this nice condition.

It is a testament to the power that little horsey emblem carries.

I agree 100%!!! I was driving tonight just admiring how someone (or a couple someones) has kept this little car in such nice shape. The seats, the dash, the paint, etc... 34 years old this month and my GT4 looks like it just drove out of 1974! Amazing. I think Dave said it best...

Back on the "what manuals came with the later GT4's question"... mine came with the somewhat inconsistent set of manuals/brochures as well. Its an original 1979, and here is what showed up. Much the same as Andrews 1978. Seems like Ferrari tried to same on print costs and reuse some prior stuff.

Strange for a car which stickered for $42K at the time.

    Looks okay to me.

Those pressure sending units are pretty unreliable. I would check it with a mechanical gauge. It's not a pipe thread though, you need an adapter (I made one from an old sending unit).

    By thw way....

I'm not so sure the current owner really knows the history on this one.
I show this was a Texas car in 1988. He, or she, makes no mention of that in the history.
