Guys, this is going to sound really ignorant but while not a newbie to Ferraris I am a newby to 328s and specifically the engine configuration. I noticed that the airbox opening (box has Ferrari stenciled on it) on the car I just purchased does not connect to anything. Seems just to be open to the engine compartment. I have looked for pictures to see what it should look like but cannot find anything. I would think that it would be connected via a hose assembly to one of the scoops on the car. Maybe this is one reason that my "slow down" light comes on??? Any help would be appreciated!

There should be a hose running from the passenger intake into the airbox.

What year? This diagram is for an earlier 328

Slow down light indicates overheating catalytic converter. There's a temp probe in the cat that runs to a circuit that turns on the light. Operation of the light is described in your manual

Thanks so much Tillman. You are a wealth of information! It is a 1986 328.

If it opens to the engine bay, you're missing the tube that connects the airbox to the duct that is inside the scoop behind the passenger door. You might be missing that duct, as well, but both are available from GT Car Parts.

You probably want to get those, otherwise the engine is sucking-in hot air from the engine bay (and it is very hot!) rather than cold air from the outside.

Installing the duct is pretty easy -- remove the wheel well splashguard (a few bolts) and the duct snakes in. Connect the hose to the duct, then the other side to the airbox. Put the splashguard back in, and you're ready to hit the road.

Thanks very much. Do you know the URL for GT Car Parts. Google didn't seem to hit on anything close. Thanks again, most helpful. This forum is great!

You have to call them at the number above -- they don't have a web site.
