DBX looks like a step beyond Vanquish.
DBS is its equivelent albeit more updated.
I just wish the Vanc was 500 hundred pounds lighter, had a 6 speed, and depreciation was spent. The car is killer. I could live with all except for the depreciation.

    The long way home
That's the reason I love the Vanquish!

To me, it's similar to the Porsche 993. Some like the thin, flowing lines of the narrow body cars. Others (like me) prefer the "squat", wide look of the S bodies.

    John,

Yes they have & yes it will replace the Vanquish...

    http://www.motoring.co.za/index.php?fArticleId=3679665&fSectionId=751&fSetId=381

The DBX, as yet is just a controlled rumour - and if launched will be a strictly limited hyper-car, much like the Enzo.

Care to show me a reliable source where Aston Martin said this? The link you provided is to an article about the Vanquish S.

I was talking face to face with someone high up in the Aston organization in the US at my local Aston dealership shortly after the Prodrive purchase. I asked him the direct question "What about the Vanquish replacement?" His response was as I have already posted: he first said specifically that the DBS WAS NOT the Vanquish replacement (something I thought I already knew anyway) and that it will be a long while before we see the Vanquish replacement as Ford didn't want to fund the development of a car for a division that they knew they were selling. My guess is it will be a long wait. Look how long it took to release the V8 after its initial Auto Show preview. The DBS and Rapide have been floating around quite a while and still are a long ways from customer hands. I guess he could have been misinformed or lying to me but I doubt it.

The Vanquish has been discontinued. The fact that the DBS is the first new car (unless you include the V8 Roadster) that Aston is releasing after it does not make the DBS the Vanquish replacement any more than the Rapide is.

If you come out with a new model that's more powerful in a similiar price point and engine configuration, with arguably better/different styling it sounds a lot like a successor to the Vanquish doesn't it?

The Vanquish is the "old" model and the DBS is the "new" model.

By the same logic, the 430 is not the replacement for the 360. You all fail. :p :p

I'm pretty sure that when Aston does eventually come up with the true replacement for the Vanquish, they will be very certain to make sure that everyone knows it. In fact, I wouldn't be suprised to see the Vanquish name used again.

This argument is frankly getting somewhat silly. All I can say is that I think anyone stating the DBS is the replacement for the Vanquish is 100% wrong and I hate to see misinformation pushed around as fact. I've given you the source of my information and would direct you to sites such as AMOC.org for further info on the topic. If someone has some solid evidence that the DBS is the Vanquish replacement, please site a single reputable source stating so.

Keep your facts. I'll stick with reality. When Aston Martin unveils the new Vanquish, I look forward to seeing how alike it is to the old model. Thank you for demonstrating that it's all about the name.

I'm not sure I get what you mean but let me try this:

The 360CS was a limited run higher performance variation of the 360 just as the DBS is a limited run higher performance variation on the DB9. The 360CS did not replace the 360 let alone the Enzo so how can you consider the DBS a replacement for the Vanquish when it doesn't even replace the DB9?

Do you consider the 599 a replacement for the Enzo?

Fact is the DBS is not a replacement for the Vanquish. F Cavallo who owns a Vanquish and posted to this thread knows it. I own a V8 Vantage and know it per my dealerships general manager, saleperson and US Aston Martin representative. If you want to ignore facts be my guest. Why not e-mail Aston Martin and ask them if the DBS replaces the Vanquish. If you can't be bothered, I will do so if you like.

Very nice car IMO, but it all depends on the numbers.
I hate to see this AM still performing poorly with the larger engine output and upgrades.

Reality is: it is not the Vanq replacement. It is a limited edition. The Rapide is 90% a reality, also a limited run.

As a Vanq owner, I can get either. I will pass on the Rapide, and have already told my salesperson I will get the Vang replacement- a 2010 production. With Prodrive buying AM, one can expect some pretty nice HP numbers, I've been told 600+.

    Have a nice day.

A Note from the head of Aston Martin PR regarding if the DBS is the replacement or not.... questions asked earlier so I checked so the Fchat people can have the best information available

    "Jim, hi

Its a difficult one in a sense as we're still some way off being able disclose technical details about the car and its been bought into the spotlight a lot earlier than would be normal practice owing to the appearance in Casino Royale. But here's what we can confirm - the DBS is a new car which is coming at the end of 2007 and it will be built at our HQ at Gaydon in Warwickshire, England. I should also emphasise that the DBS is not a Vanquish replacement - its another new car from Aston Martin and we would see it as the bridge between the road car (the DB9) and our entry level race car (the DBRS9)."

    There is the answer

Thanks for the update. I e-mailed Aston Martin this morning asking if the DBS is the Vanquish replacement (even though I know the answer). I expect the reply will be quite similar to the one that you received.

Yes. I primarily know Kurt although I have met Sonny once or twice. I could not be more pleased with my experiences with AM Dallas over the past few years. Agree completely that they are a great dealership. All the info they have given me has been right on the money, unlike with some other auto dealerships that will go unnamed.

Can't wait to see the DBS in person when in comes through the DFW area (don't have any idea when that will be).

i really don't see the point of this debate about whether or not the DBS is the vanquish replacement. frankly, i don't care whether it is, i love AM's, and if i had ridiculous amounts of money, a DBS would be the first car i would buy, before anything else.

Brief article and some pics of the DBS over on Motor Trend:

    http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/exotic/112_0707_2008_aston_martin_dbs

    I'll quote one paragraph:

"It'll be our halo car and will have superior performance to the now-aged Vanquish," says Aston's Ulrich Bez, before quickly countering: "It's not the Vanquish successor, but another car to raise awareness of the brand." Adds design director Marek Reichman, "The DBS isn't replacing the Vanquish; it's a standalone product based on the DB9."

Early 2008 (estimate). Since Aston has been owned by Ford their cars have looked stunning, I hope that the new owners can keep that up.
