    Semi- newby here.
I have a 84 308QV and the PO did some odd stuff. The two pieces of sheet metal on either side of the engine bay were covered with some custom made aluminum sheet metal pieces.(glued down) I removed them and would like to refinish to original.
    1. What have you used to repaint/recoat the sheet metal in this area? Looks like it may be covered with an undercoating type finish.
    2. The data plate on the right (passenger) side is gone. The vin is stamped in the frame but the little metal plate that should be riveted to the panel is missing. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement/repro? (all the other vin plates are OK). I have seen the tank stickers and voltage stickers on ebay.
    Thanks

    Hi Jim:

    Welcome.
If your "undercoating" finish is in good shape then I would recommend SEMs black self etching primer (Available in many bodyshop supply stores). It adhears well and has a nice sheen, but it is not completely fuel proof. However, if solvent does hit it, the touch-up easlily.

If the "undercoating" is damaged, I recommend a rubberized undercoating because it dries. You will need to do samples on cardboard to get the technique right. After it dries completly I would spray with the SEMs.

I'm sure others will pipe-in with some good ideas too.

I found the data plate or "vehicle identity" on ferrari.co.uk.
    130613 or 129846 for 27 pounds.
    Good luck!

Thanks, I had to wait for my registration to take to search-but I could not find the part under data plate or ident or the numbers given. Do you remember what diagram it was shown on?
    Thanks

    Jim,

These are the plates I have.

Is this the type you need?

Photo is a bit fuzzy, beacuse the aluminum plate is covered with adhesive plastic that gets removed after the info is punched in.

Let me know. I have a few, and they are OEM's.
