the text says something allong the line of:

the car is a replica but by making this he wanted to show Ferrari lovers and more particular F40 - people see that a roadster is a possibility
he doesn't kown the base or motarisation or anything that goes on under the bonnet.

    more or less

I never knew it was a replica, but then again I have only seen the pic of it in the tent.

I gotta build me one of those one day...guess I getter start looking for a crashed f40. Be a lot chaeper than a 333sp.

It may be a replica, but if it's at a F meet, it must have F power if not more.

This is not a replica, it is a real F40 with the correct motor.
The first owner was a Belgian Jean Blaton.

This is a real F-40 IMSA, look at these pics taken during the building of the car.
You can see the original F-40 bodyshell removed and cut to make the spyder.
Sorry, these are crappy pics taken way before the digicams era.

And this is an F-40 similar (made by Kroymans from a "stock" F-40) to the donor car actually for sale in Belgium. As these cars aren't made for 24H races, they haven't frontlights.

I mean it is cool, but why cut up a F40 to do this? Was this with factory approval or something?

That's like asking, "Why cut up an Enzo to make the P4/5?"

It's what the owner wanted. :)

Is it worth to cut up an Enzo if the result will be the P4/5? I think Yes ;)

I think "Yes!" too - on both accounts.

However, I do think if this F40 barchetta were red or even black that more people would really love it.
