Monaco streets during Top Marques event

Over the past few years we have been receiving an overwhelmingly positive response from American and Canadian automotive enthusiasts. Obviously, as part of the global roll out of the Carver One, we have been looking into distributing to the North American market as well.

Naturally, the European-specification model will have to be modified to meet national standards. And there is more to that than meets the eye.

We initially appointed a dedicated team for the North American market, responsible for the roll out of a nationwide sales and service network. Meanwhile, it has become clear that additional market analysis and funding are required for the launch to be successful, after which we will resume our active marketing efforts.

A dedicated team has started an in-depth analysis of the requirements to make the vehicle ideally suited to the North American market. One of the most important modifications involves the engine. Further planned enhancements include the addition of air-conditioning.
The retail price for the North American market is yet to be determined. Considering the required re-engineering and transportation costs, the North American retail price is expected to approximate 48.000 USD for a basic model.

Regarding the launch of the Carver One in the North American market, we do not expect to be able to launch before 2008. Any change in timing would be communicated immediately via this website.

It is indeed very true that the police seem fairly unmoved by black and white plates. Plenty of people are worried that putting them on the car makes them an obvious target to be pulled over by the police and whilst the plates are obviously visible as being illegal, cops never seem too bothered. A similar concept to the German style European design plates now being used in the UK to display UK number plates. Illegal again but they look good on a fast Audi or Mercedes for example!

 

Sweet cars. I would just love to visit Monaco to see all these great cars. Are these cars like really common there? As in you see them everyday?

 

Very interesting. I never knew such things happen over there as well. Recently here in NA, there was a 'stunt' devised by a magazine (Automobile if memory serves me correct) with a Bentley Continental GTC, Alex Roy, and Ezra Dyer. The car used a UK style front plate with an MI on the left bottom corner of the plate indicating Michigan, instead of the usual GB or D, or some other european country initials. The rear plate on the other hand, is a proper Michigan licence plate with blue background.

It too was never bothered by the police during the course of the 'stunt'. Although in this case, I think it was more of pure luck for them. But good for them IMO, a little deviance every now and again could only raise excitement and kill the dullness.

 

Michigan is one of a handful of states that only issue ONE license plate, to be placed on the rear of the vehicle. So if they did as you described it was all perfectly legal. Since Michigan doesn't issue front license plates you can put a Euro plate or whatever you want up front, or nothing at all.

Yep it's expensive (by my standards anyway), but there is no income tax at all there - one of the UK's richest men has all his business interests registered in his wive's name as she lives in Monaco. It's estimated that saved him over £400,000,000 in tax last year!

You mean the ones with the little blue European flag with GB in the middle - they are also illegal? I know of many car dealers who supply those as standard. I never realised they were illegal. (also aren't the black ones black with silver writing - or is that just in some of the ex british colonies who still use black/silver plates?_

Nope I have one of those one my car so I hope they aren't illegal! The plates I am referring to are actually identical to German style plates with a white background, black lettering and usually the two circular shape badges somewhere in the middle of the plate that are used in Germany. I have seen plenty of Audis, Mercs and BMWs round this area with them on. Very effective, but it makes it impossible to read the registration as a UK plate from a distance so therefore making them illegal.

The black ones with silver writing were used in the UK until 1975 I believe and are now illegal on UK registered new cars and those after 1975, however some ex-British colonies and other British 'regions' like Guernsey do still use black and silver plates. The Merc SLR that started this whole discussion being one such example.
