I always get them dry cleaned but it would be easier if I could just machine wash my ties, would it ruin them if I trieD>?

Sure! Ties are like rakes and shovels - they don't care as long as they're together! Here's an Ancient Chinese Secret I learned about Drycleaning - Throw the whole batch in there with an old terry-cloth bathrobe, 3 rose petals for every two ties and a bag of Flaming Cheetos (Important: Family Size) for every dozen ties along with 3 steel wool pads (some prefer S.O.S., but I swear by Brillo) for every dozen; set it on Extra Hot and Extra Rough. Then, give 'em a good, solid trip over a washboard, making certain to move the ties in a counter-clockwise motion, just like the Ancient Chinese Drycleaners do!

Of course they can. But then they become straps to tie things to roof racks...

    Don't do it!

I would think it would depend on the material.

Start a new style -- diagonal wrapped tie seams. ;)

I tried it once. The tie was pretty much ruined anyway, so it was worth a shot. It was even more ruined after washing. But it was cleaner. And no longer flat.

A tie is a carefully folded tube of material. Get the folds out of place, and it's pop art pasta.

Tried it in college. Ruined several ties. Don't laugh, I tried it for a dress jacket too. It was college, I was broke. The jacket shrunk 3 sizes and lost all of its creases. But I saved 5$ ;).

And then you went on to lose 50 lbs so you could fit into it, right ?

LOL! I got a question--My wife usually does the laundry, and when I tried this I noticed that our machine's "Hot and Extra Rough" setting is worn out. Any suggestions?

I'm no laundry-master, but I've gotta go with a suggestion of just buying a new washing machine?

write for a new Ben Silver catalog and get a quality piece...

They say actually even dry cleaning begins a long road down hill....sponge spots with club soda and EAT NEATER!!

tucking it into shirt before mud wrestling is the way to go...

most ties are throw away unles you are spending up towards 100 -175.....

I like the Victory in Europe Stripe as well as the Vietnam War Vet stripe...check out Ben Silver....

Never pull the knot out to the loose end..back it off gently, by hand........

Oh - then you want to substitute Hot Pork Rinds for the Flaming Cheetos, and a Kimono for the Bathrobe. Works every time!

Sweet! You just saved me the time of having to start a "Can Kimonos be Machine Washed?" thread.
