360, no second thoughts. You will always be able to sell her at your acquisition price if you are unhappy with her, but I STRONGLY DOUBT you will once you've had the F experience ;).

the 360 has been one of the more reliable newer ferraris. not sure it's going to be a maint problem if you get a well sorted one. i think if you drive both you will have your answer.

I dunno how to say it, but this is a Ferrari board - OF COURSE YOU SHOULD GET A 360!!!

The Cayman is a fantastic car, but its not a Ferrari.

If you can afford to own a Ferrari you should do the 360 I personally have seen three Caymans in the area that I live in in the last 3 days they are not the car nor the image that comes with a Ferrari

I just did this exercise. But my comparison was Cayman or C6 Vette or F348. I already own a Vette and Porsche, and I've always wanted a Ferrari. The 348 was in my $45 to $55k price range. The performance of the Cayman (295hp, 3100lbs) should be close to the 348, but it will probably depreciate like the boxters did. The Vette will probably outperform both, but when I take my C3 Vette for a spin, I'll wave to another five C5 and C6 Vettes in a typical cruise. I haven't seen a Ferrari in a couple of weeks. Then I had to decide between the 328, 348, and Testarossa. I went with the 348. I still don't have the car here yet, but according to PAP and Chris and a few fanatics on the 348 forum, I made the right choice. Anyone driving a transporter from Indy to Cali?

Exactly what I was going to say. The Cayman is my favorite Porsche ever. but it's still not a Ferrari 360.

A glorified porsche boxster costs 200000 AUD (roughly $165000 US)??!!?? That's absolutely insane. You're paying double the price for the Cayman than if you were in the US. I guess the answer is simple, pick the Ferrari, seems to be a MUCH better value.

Are the Aussies still mad at the German's for some reason? $165KUS will buy a GT2 or 2 Caymans. A 2001 360 will run $140ish. Must like the Italians more!

I have ridden in/driven 360s before, as well as a brand new Cayman S.

There is absolutely no comparison. The Cayman S lacks passion, while the 360 oozes it. There is no "WOW factor" in the Cayman S. Sure, it's a nice-looking car and it handles pretty well, but the 360 is a totally different league. The acceration, the sound, the feeling are what make the 360 far superior to any car similar to the Cayman S (by a mile). It's not my money, nor my decision, but I would STRONGLY suggest getting the 360. Mark my words-you will not regret it.

This thread is almost as ridiculous as that new Hyundai commercial that compares it's SUV to the Land Rover. Completely different animals. I would never compare the Porsche to a Hyundai, but I am trying to make a point. I really like the Cayman S, but it will never ever be a contender to a 360.

Another good point many have already made, the Porsche will drop like a rock in value compared to any Ferrari product.

Why do these threads pop up????? Ok, I'm a non-owner, and I ended up purchasing an older Boxster S rather than a 308 GT4 or a really nice 328 (that I got sniped out from under me)......

That said, I'm still here, on FChat, cause I eventually want to get my first FCar and I'm not stupid enough to get on a Ferrari list and ask a stupid question like "oh, which one should I choose, a Ferrari or a xxxxxxxxxxx".

Come on people, stop being trolls, this is a Ferrari list, and the guys on here are GREAT and can help you with advice on any FCar, and many own several other makes and models, but don't come on here asking about a Porsche vs. a Ferrari.....

Exotic cars in Australia are way over priced.

A brand new F430 is 450 grand! In america its like 250 or something?

250 grand here will get you a 99 model 360 Modena...

Audi RS4 here is about 140 grand!

    I own a Boxster S and a 360 F1 Spider.

A few weeks ago a guy in a truck pulled up next to the Boxster S and asked if it was a Cayman. You think you are making a statement with a Cayman. Ha.

I think the Boxster is all I need until I drive the 360. Most fun car I have ever driven. Is this a serious question? The Boxster S is basically my wife's car. We both like top down motoring.

Before I bought the 360 I drove a Porsche Turbo Cabriolet. It was a lot less money than the 360. Just wasn't fun to drive compared to the 360. It had a stick with a special short shift that I do not like. Tipronic stinks. Love the 360 F1.

In Aspen I see several Porsches every day. Still rare to see a Ferrari.

Cayman is the safe choice. The Ferrari is the live "life to the fullest" (you only live once) choice.

I thought Cayman was an island. Do they have sports cars there? :)

Detail: New Porsches come with 4 year warrantys, unless it is different down under.

Answer: Regardless of what ANYONE says, it is YOUR car. Drive them both (hard) and then decide. Opions are like...well...you know. :D

Good post - probably because I agree with all of it. ;)

There's a big 'experience' leap between driving an exotic and everything else. As has been posted here thousands of times, the Porsche is a great daily driver that can also be driven hard. The Ferrari, although more machine-made than they once were, is still a high-strung exotic that will cost you dearly if you pile on the miles.

If you're concerned about warranties, you probably need to get the Porsche and drive that for a while before contemplating a Ferrari.

FWIW, I'm looking for a new daily driver this fall, and the Cayman is on my short list, along with the BMW Z4 coupe and Audi TT (new model). These all offer enough performance for normal driving, have warranties and won't bore me during the week. They're all disposable cars, mass produced, and when I trade it in or whatever I won't get too worked about it because I'll already have another car in mind. I expect to see a lot of other people driving the same car, but in that price range that's how it goes.

Then on the weekend I have the Ferrari, which is far and away the most exciting car I've ever driven. I have seen 1 other 328 on the road in the last two years, and people come up to me at gas stations and whenever I park to ask about the car. (Many threads about this...) It makes me feel like Schumacher, and I almost have to walk backwards away from the car when I park it to get another look (even though I own it).

So, the Cayman is a great car, but I think it's in a vastly different category.

I drove a Cayman S a few months ago, handles well, looks great, definitely a good car but I'd much rather have a 360 its a whole different category. The Cayman would make a really nice daily driver though.
