F355 weight savings delete the power top mechanisms

    It makes total sense, but I think the collective response here has been that it's an exercise in futility. It's a LOT of work for minimal weight savings. There are probably better places to start - like ditching the A/C. Saves weight AND reduces parasitic power loss.

    Please don't think I am attacking TE for his desire to reduce the car's weight. As an exercise in and of itself, I think it's very interesting. I do not think it's practical however. If it were me and I wanted to do this, I'd start elsewhere UNLESS the top mechanism is already broken or problematic. If this were the case, it'd be the first thing I'd do! As it isn't me or my car, I guess it doesn't matter :)

    TE - If you actually do this, be sure to weigh all the removed bits as I for one am now very interested to see how much weight comes out. You'll also be able to remove the hydraulic pump and other ancillary parts.
