I (think I) know that '83 was the last year on the 308 that had a dual exhaust all the way back, but on the '84 and '85 cars are there still two cats or only one?

I know I could just wait until my car shows up and take a peek, but I'm impatient. :D

That would be nice. Trying to figure out how many I might have to replace to meet MA emissions.

Hyperflow is the way to go. I lived about 7 years without a cat on my 84 and almost went blind from the fumes. I installed the hyperflow a year ago (easy, I did it in my driveway) and LOVE it. It is like a test pipe without the fumes.

    +1 LOL
I got sick of watering eyes and having everyone evacuate the garage when I started my car.

I am not kidding. I would drive over to my girlfriend's apartment and she knew the instant I walked in her door I was in the Ferrari. She could smell me from across the room.

I can't believe I lived like that for so long.

Does the Hyperflow act as a cat and "reburn" the fumes? My 308 came equipped with a test pipe (no cat) - and sometimes the fumes get annoying.

I had test pipes on my 348 when I bought it. It sounded nice, but the smell was intolerable. Now, with a HyperFlow setup I have basically the same power (I cannot tell any difference versus my old test pipes) and none of the stinky-ness.

Don't you have your O2 sensor disconnected?

It's never been hooked up. The CO setting was in spec too. (no, I don't adjust it like so many other's "by feel" or "by ear". I use a CO sniffer)

Why wouldn't one have the O2 sensor hooked up? Doesn't the O2 sensor just get used to lean out the air/fuel ratio at idle and/or light acceleration (closed-loop mode), but get ignored during heavy throttle (open-loop mode)?

I asked that same question but I always was told the same thing; that I really didn't need it so why spend the money fixing it?

So I just left it alone. Same with my 16V Scirocco, I bought it, saw the O2 was disconnected and was told the same exact thing.

I really can't imagine either car running any better with it hooked up. I bought my 308 in 97 and that Scirocco in 99. A combined 85,000 miles later I have had no issues. Both run great. Always have.
