    Hi everybody,

I'm about to get my hands on my 328 for my first summer of fun. My mechanics told not to fill the tank more than 75% because if I go more that it will smell gas.
    Comments?

I routinely fill mine all the way up. If you're smelling gas, you have a problem with your hoses. You need to find the problem before you're staring at a charred hulk that used to be your Ferrari.

    Sorry to be a bummer.

Checking hoses was part of the work he did and everything is very fine according to him. He's mentionning an that there is a charcoal filter in that area and overfilling might get odors through it, but nothing else than that.

I fill mine(85'qv) up very near the top (a few gal shy to allow for expansion) and I NEVER smell gas.
The gas cap may not be sealing or hoses are bad if you smell gas.

85 QV here... no issues with smelling gas on fill-up..

    Exhaust fumes... well - that's a different story... I need a hyperflow!

    Thanks all for replies.
Hope he's just playing it safe with a newbie.
Anyway, I'll make sure to check for these dreaded smells even though every thing is supposed to be ok.
If ever I smeel even the smallest amount I'll make sure to stop driving it, get it towed and get it inspected asap.
Oh and by the way I bought a Fire Extinguisher!

Be sure to keep it in the cabin and not in the rear storage area. You need to be able to get to it quickly if a "problem" arises. I think most owners put the extinguisher on the floor, in front of the passenger seat.

Fuel filler neck hose is the one to be especially watchful of.

I always fill my '88 328 untill the fuel is visible, no smell or leakage. Get some new mechanics who can find the problem.

    Wow! F-Chat really works.
    Thanks all for the comments.
The fire extinguisher is in the cabin and the fuel filler neck was inspected abd I even took a look at it and it is pristine!
It's not smelling right now, he mentionned not to stuff it to the rim in order to avoid any problems.
I'll keep you posted as I get it in my hands.
