Absolutely no possible way. At the very very best, it'll be somewhere around 30 seconds slower than that.

To place an astonishing 7:15, the GTR would be have more than 600hp and an Elise weight... I think it's impossible.

It's not possible with the weight and power that the new GTR has.

7.40 is possible because we have seen the Corvette Z06 do it, and the Porsche 997 GT3 is in that area. 7.35 is possible if they have something in their new car others don't know about. 7.30 is dreaming territory. 7.15 is a lol-subject.

Edit; But remember; The original R-32 Skyline GT-R was the fastest production car around the Ring when it came out (first to crack 8 minutes). Perhaps that's the goal of the new GT-R as well, to set the new record. Lotus is involved so nobody knows what they are up to, but both Lotus and Nissan has proven some serious skills before and I'm not going to be surprised if this car turns out to eat 911 GT3's/TT's/F430's.

While 7:15 is a biiiig stretch, I don't doubt this is a very serious car. I do expect it to post an impressive time but not quite that impressive...

I looked into it little more. I guess there will be three GTR models when it comes out. The standard GTR, GTR Vspec II with DSG gears, and GTR Evo which will be lighter with more HP. (Kind of like 911 GT2 vs 911 Turbo) But I doubt that even with the GTR Evo, it will be doing 7:15.

The z06 has more power and weighs less, and it wouldn't surprise me if the z06 pulled more gs on a skidpad. The problem with it setting a new record is that it weighs too much and doesn't have nearly enough horsepower to set a lap that fast. The problem mainly lies in the awd which has at least a 25% parasitic drivetrain power loss compared to a 15% at most rwd parasitic power loss. For those reasons I believe the z06 will be faster.

The Nismo R34 Z-tune gets about 500hp and I'm pretty sure it out-performs the Z06 around the track. A lot more engineering went into it.

The only lap I've seen of the Z-tune on the Ring was with traffic and accidents where it had to slow down so they couldn't go for a complete lap. ;)

I suspect that Nissan will be able to pull it off...they want to sell the new GTR world world at around $80k USD and will need to prove it's worth that kind of money...

For that vehicle to be THAT fast, it clearly must have a trail rating.

I believe it. There have been rumblings about a Nissan GT-R Spec V which would have more power and have a striped out interior. Lets not beat around the bush, the GT-R is going to be an amazing car.

The GTR Evo is supposed to have 530-550hp, be 300-400lbs lighter than the V spec as well as carbon brakes, improved suspension etc etc. While I dont think its pulling 7:15 around the ring, I could see them around 7:35-7:40 range which is still quite impressive. They also could be going the route of fully optimizing the car for the Ring to achieve these times and not really care about how its performing on the other tracks. For example the SRT-10 Viper kicks ass on tons of tracks (proven to be extremely close to the z06) but on the ring it only pulls 8:10 or so.

You have hit the nail right on the head. Manufactures buy these lap times using only the best drivers and setting up the car exactly for the ring. They spend months getting these incredible times.

Lap times performed with the same driver, on the same track, on the same day give a lot better indication of track performance. But even that isn’t going to be completely accurate.

    absolute and total BS.

I can't believe a publication would be retarded enough to even report that time. Complete nonsense

IMO a 7.40 or higher will be what this car runs.

The car they will be using will probably be shell of a car, with no interior to speak of.
