It's like that at almost all colleges, where ya been ?

Here at the local state U., tuition for 12 credit hours each semester (resident student): $2,350.00, books were $400-500 per semester, parking pass was $110 for the year (indoor parking)...
    Just like Dick Cavett sez..

Uh, no thanks, I'm not looking to downgrade on that right now.

However, many of the satellite campuses are less expensive.

Also, the State funded schools are less. West Chester, Shippensburg, Bloomsburg, Millersville, etc. They run abour $13K a year.

My youngest kid got in to a couple of those. They also tossed some scholarship money at him, whcih surprised me. Got the cost down to about $10K a year.

Those are the last "bargain" schools left in the PA system. Otherwise, expect to pay pretty big money for a state education.

Also, main campus is VERY difficult to get accepted to as a freshman. They want to push you to a branch campus, have you do two years there, then wander up to Happy Valley. I dunno, but two years at Penn State Mont Alto campus strikes me as not exactly the most fun in the world, but what do I know. PSU Abington, PSU Delaware County, all are very inexpensive, but sure don't provide the feel of the full college experience.

Good luck johnny, I wish your son all the luck getting into the school HE wants to go to, and that you don't have to sell that spanky new (to you) 355 to pay for it.

You could send him to live there for a year to gain residency before starting college... just an idea. We actually considered it when I was thinking of going to UVA or JMU. The prices for out of state students really are astronomical.

Ahhhh....why cant he live at home and go to the local University ?

Why is it so important to go out of state, or live on residence ?

WVU is a party school frequently at the top of the party school ranks. A total waste of money at 23k per year.

I went to PSU for my undergrad. I appreciate the quality of the business education more and more as I go along. I just hope they still have excellent professors like they did when I was there.

Plus there are Penn State grads everywhere and a good way to meet people city to city.

This is not as easy as it sounds because I did just this a decade ago.

What saved me was that my high school diploma was from a PA school. I moved here before my last year of high school.

He'll have to not be a dependent on your taxes, have a job life etc in PA for at least a full year to even be considered. Even then expect a healthy fight.

They will look at where your high school(s) were.

Even for my masters they checked my education history after I had lived here upwards of 7 years. I told them to pound sand and they did.
